Student exchange in usa...

Next year, i have been thinking about being an exchange student in usa. BUT i dont really know anything about the school system and such... Is anybody here american or have been exchange student? can you tell me a bit about how it is to be a student there?

Im also not sure if i shall go to USA or another country.. I can go to almost any country in the world.... But preferably english speaking countries..

I've never been an exchange student but my doctor's husband has something to do with them so she told me about it. Kind of.
She said that you will take "internation language" courses like different types of math. She also said that you must take English and US History. Also, you have to follow our "customs" i.e, eat where we eat, where what we wear, have fun where we have fun. :) I probably didn't help much but hey, I'm bored. 👍

What? Not really. You can eat wherever you like, wear what you want to wear, have fun how you want to have fun. At least, you should be able to.

I bet if you do well over in the Norway school system, the American school system will be a breeze for you.

Come to Canada! Vancouver and Toronto are two very good places to go to =P.... VERY diverse population.. I bet you'll make some friends over here too.

Shot, eh? Maybe.

Come to America and be enlightened by our sound principles, including gun ownership.;)

Seriously, unless there's a historical land mark you must see, persons your interested in visiting, and a service you want, I'd skip America. Other than some of our Universities, we aren't that great in education.

My sister went on a 3 month exchange to germany, through her school. If your looking for an english speakng country i would suggest Canada. Afterall it is one of the best countries to live in. Heck why not come to winnipeg

Canada all the way. the only area where I personally noticed American education as being more advanced is in Math. When I was in 8th grade (USA), i was doing the Canadian equivilant of 10th grade math. Aside from that, Canada is better off than the USA. Plus, in Ontario alone, we have the best art schools in the world (Sheridan and OCAD) as well as the best engineering schools in the world (Waterloo, Ryerson - for aerospace they're amazing, McMaster - great all around) and one of the best Med schools around... Queens University

Go Canaduh!!!

my only beef with Canada is that no university in this country offers MIS (Management Information Services - a division of IT)

Come to America so you can spend the rest of your life acting like an Expert on it and why it is evil, that is, if you make it out alive.

im no genious at school.. infact, im really tired of school, and one of the reason why i want to go to usa is that its easier to get good grades and such.. i have been considering canada, but its much more expencive...

Go to Canada or Australia. At least you don't have to worry about the government attacking the hell out of another nation, or the nation getting attacked. So yeah, the two safest places! Plus, both are nice looking.

I'm ashamed at times to be an American. :(

USA=better marks??? Im pretty sure our public school systems are pretty equal as far as difficulty, and who ever said americans are more advanced at math or whatever, id like to see the facts on that one cuz i dont believe it for one second. Also What parts of Canada are more expensive than the USA?

Come here to LA! Your fellow classmates will be Mexicans that can't speak, write or read English, so you'll fit right in!

We have something called Social Promotion in our schools here. If you don't do well, they pass you to the next grade anyway. It was outlawed several years ago, but nobody cares about laws here anymore.

Your English isn't top notch either. ;)

Social Promotion sounds awesome. Do they have a similar program in China? I'm going to move there and only speak English!

I talked to someone who had been exchange students in usa, and they said that they got much better grades in usa than in Norway. And i dont mean that canada is more expencive to live in, but its more expencive to go on school there. It costs 45000 kr in usa, and 59000 in canada. and that is quite a lot of money..

Actually US public schools are pretty bad compared to other developed countries, especially in math and science.

yea cause you have teachers that either don't care, or just don't know how to teach

Come to Australia...;)

Our school gets Japanese students and we send a few of our students over to Japan for about 2 weeks...what happens is a family can volunteer to adopt one of the kids for the two weeks, and they get an allowance for taking care of the kid. So the exchange students go to the Aquarium and go see stuff during the day while we're at school and then they stay with the family the other times. The exchange students are funny though. They play footy with us.

comments like this make me sad (sort of). I had an opportunity to be an exchange student to France once, but I passed it up (). I'd say to go for it, because I regret passing up my opportunity...
