Are all crossover cables yellow? And are all yellow cables crossovers?

Failing that, is there a way to tell if a given cable is crossover or straight through?

TIA!

ok Neon, simple terms look at the tip of the connector, you will see different color wires going to the tips. if you hold both connevtors exactly the same way and see that the outer wires in reverse order that is a ccrossover - kinda defining huh? and if they don't it is a patch cable. I didn't look at that link so I don't know what is there.

Yeah, you have to check the actual cabling. In my experience, the actual connectors on crossover cables are a little longer.

On a related note, we always tell gullible users and new IT staff the patch cable rules:
Red: Can only carry print jobs
Yellow: Must be aligned in a North-South direction
Grey: Only work at weekends, best steer clear of them.

Etc etc.

That is great, I love new hires and screwing with them. When we didtech support we did that a lot to them. I use to manager the new hires coming in and train them to do tech support. The stuff you can get them to do. But after a little while we started messing with them a ton. This one guy went to lunch and I jumped on his computer and basically turned it into a windows help computer. . . after it rebooted though I had it setup to be a calculator. The guy gets back in and clicks start to log back in and it only comes up with help. he goes to turn off active desktop nothing. . . he starts scratching his head and comes to me. I tell him to reboot and poof calculator only. he move a total of 5 times that day with us messing with him.
