baru Impreza Sedan Concept makes its official debut, previewing the next-gen saloon
The Subaru Impreza Sedan Concept has made its debut at the 2015 LA Motor Show, previewing a saloon version of the brand'sFord Focus rival.

The concept has a sporty stance and striking red paintwork - the sleeker shape will help the model compete with the stylish Mazda 3 Fastback saloon. New 'hawk-eye' headlights give it a much more modern look than the previous-gen car, and exaggerated front wheelarches hint back at the brand's motorsport heritage.

The previous model's boxy profile has put to bed with this concept, a coupe-like roofline and a small lip on the bootlid to act as a spoiler.

The design was also previewed by a concept version of the next Impreza hatch, unveiled at the Tokyo show last month. Expect design cues from this to make their way over to the four-door, although its not clear yet whether the UK will receive both bodystyles.

The only engine offered for the current Impreza in the UK is a 112bhp naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol that claims 44mpg and emits 147g/km of CO2. Expect a completely fresh unit for the new car, with the possibility of a diesel option, although the company is likely to persist with the Lineartronic CVT gearbox option.

This being a Subaru, four-wheel drive is likely to be an option – although front-wheel-drive variants will allow the necessary efficiency boost.

Can the Subaru Impreza compete with the likes of the Mazda 3? Let us know what you think below...
