Im happy with the sportsmanship rating, it really holds people accountable for their actions. With that said, people do make mistakes - and thats expected.
Personally i'd like to see some adjustments for the sportsmanship system.
- If you accidentally bump someone off the track your sportsmanship rating goes down (this already works quite well)
- If you return the position to the player within a set amount of time, I think your rating should go back up.
Another example of good sportsmanship would be:
- If you're braking into a corner and you swerve off the track to avoid rear ending another vehicle your rating should also go up provided you didn't cut the corner and gain any advantage. You should not be penalised for this either.
On many occasions I've done exactly this, I've made a mistake and edged someone off the track, I would instantly return the position and go for the clean overtake in the next sector. The same goes for rear ending other players, as an example on NB GP, a group of 5 drivers braking hard into turn one, running 3 wide, the driver in front braked a little earlier than me, so I swerved out of track limits (wide line) to avoid the collision which could have ruined the race for the 3 drivers on the wide line.
Any other thoughts on mechanics PD could add to improve the SR system?
