as i have said in some of my threads, i own a BMW M Roadster and i am in the middle of building a caterham kit car. once the kit car is finished i will be selling the M Roadster because i need something a bit more practical. i have a few possible candidates lined up, tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions.

BMW M5
Honda Civic Type - R (new model)
BMW M3
Ford Mondeo (i know, but my girlfriend really likes them)
Lotus Esprit (not exactly the most practical but its a 2+2 seater)

any other suggestions would be appreciated

You could throw an E-Space, a Transit van and a Toyota Landcruiser just to make the list a bit more varied!

Seriously though, I don't like giving tips on buying without knowing requirements. Is it just you and your other half? Are you likely to need four doors? Is your other half going to drive it? Is it going to be the daily driver?

its just me and my girlfriend and it will be a shared car, she will take it to work and i will use it after work. i still want something reletively sporty because the caterham will only be used on sunny and nice days, and everyone knows there aint a lot of them in england.

Well, if it was me, I'd be inclined to go to the M5 (like that'd be an option for me  ) - I'm a big fan of fast four doors, and if you're going to go practical you may as well do it properly.

that was my main choice, just wanted to see what anyone in the forums thinks. it probarly will be the M5 but my girlfriend will give me a hard time about not buying a mondeo, but who cares if she wants one then she can buy it.

I'd definitely choose the M5 over all the other cars you listed...

I thought the esprit only had two seats? Out of those though it's got to be the M3 or M5. What about the Jag XJR or S-Type R though?

I would definitely go for the M5. As for the Esprit being 2+2, I think the +2 is for people like Anne Boleyn. Post makeover.

alright, say i go for the M5, which i probarly will. there are only two colours i would consider

jet black
le mans blue

what you guys think?

here is the blue one

Not a big fan of black cars (dirty the moment you drive them) - again, if you're going to go practical, go all the way. Actually, the BMW blue's a nice colour.

Yeah the M5 is a good one, question is the girl in your avatar your girlfriend? I mean u never know.

The S-Type R is the new performance Jag with over 400bhp featured in Top Gear magazine this month. They have it tested against the BMW M5, well worth a look:D

The mondeo may be good but what would you rather have, Mondeo, or M5? Even the most dedicated blue oval fan surely could not say no to 400bhp:D
