SUPER TAIKYU in GRAN TURISMO 5

02.jpg

It's back once again! The purpose of the Super Taikyu (スーパー耐久; Super Endurance) series is to demonstrate the speed and durability of, what are essentially road going vehicles. Divided into five classes, the goal of Super Taikyu from a competition standpoint is to allow racers the ability to always race. Whether the car-driver combination is competitive with those in its class is not the sole concern. In the SuperTaikyu there has always been a blend of the five (four for our purposes) classes to allow for cars that might have slower drivers, or which are built to a slower specification, to have competition. Similarly skilled drivers or quicker cars generally have a class above to race with. ST2-ST4 cars find themselves racing amongst one another, whereas ST1 will usually provide close racing between one another. ST1 cars are purpose built, FIA styled racing machines, which provide close racing action. ST2-ST4 are showroom stock racing machines with minimal modifications to allow them to perform on a racing circuit and at the same time be safe. Because of the limits on ST2-ST4 modifications, the result is mixed class racing.

Provisional Car List:
2012's car list has been significantly altered since the 2011 season, and will feature a different array of cars. Testing is still being conducted to level the field, and specs should be announced later in the week to follow the posting of this thread. Each class, ST1-ST4 will feature four main drivers and an additional four reserve drivers to maintain a full grid. (Race Officials Note: Those applying for the ST1 class must provide proof of competition in three other online racing series here at GTPlanet unless stated otherwise. This will be taken on a case by case basis.) The following car list will show the cars that will be homologated for the series, however, open cars for each category will be revealed under an official "team release" after testing is complete.

Race Format:
Qualifying will be held either day of or the traditional two nights prior, based on voting by the participants. Reserve drivers are also invited to qualify should a driver not be able to participate. Qualifying will consist of a 20-minute session. Based on qualifying results, the multi-class grid will be divided based on number of participants. Realistically, two groups of twelve. A staggered start will be in order of class. Pit strategy is mandatory as needed for the race. Total times from both groups will be totaled at the end of the event.

Rules:
Standard On-Line Rules apply. ST2-ST3 class are allowed to battle for position. ST4 class must give way to advancing ST1-ST3 class, and ST2-ST3 class must give way to advancing ST1 class. Grass-cutting and off-track advancement is strictly forbidden.

Extra Information:
Events will be held over the course of a weekend. Times will be determined based on general consensus of the competitors.

How To Register:
Registration is not currently open just yet, but interested drivers may leave their name and intended class to reserve their spot for once registration commences. Keep in mind that you should have an open mind with what cars will be available in each class, at it may not be the one you set your eye on. Registration is currently open for ST1 class, however, and interested parties must private message their car choice, user name, and three references as state above to myself. I'd like to get at least two drivers with the SLS, though this car is hard to come by and may not be possible.

So again, interested drivers, state your intent on which class you prefer along with your username in this thread for ST2 through ST4. ST1 provisional entrants please PM myself your details.

Official test session will be conducted before start of the season.

REMEMBER, Official spec sheets have not yet been release, and will likely appear along with official team releases within the week to follow the posting of this thread.

Really wondered where this disappeared too. Stoked its back!

Will either be running in ST2 or ST4! Where did ST5 go?

If you need any help on more testing, just send me a FR and we can sort it out sometime. Will be a pleasure to help.

Can you add another car to ST1? And I think I'm doing Formula Nippon as well..

Which car are you interested in running?

ST5 is gone for now, it may re-emerge should popularity hang around after this season.

I don't know. What cars are in ST1 in real life besides GT-R's, SLS's, and Porsche's?

Do they have to be regular cars? Or are we using GT's? Because he stealth SLS is like an RM car. And the 350z has a standard GT.

Green and yellow will be the Mugen Honda team. About three hours until the FN thread is out.

FN sign-up is now live. Should be able to say the same thing for Super Taikyu by the end of the weekend.

I need some help with testing for ST1 and we can go live with Super Taikyu.

If I had the Merc I would've done it but I don't... You know, we could use the Shulze GT-R instead of the TC wich is more of a GT3 car.

Maybe. We don't know if it's coming out for sure. It's just in GT Academy. But I sure hope so.
