General Information:
Hello and welcome to the Supercar Edition of the 'The Race Of Champions'.
This game is still very "new" and its online community is still small but hopefully it is already big enough to allow for a fun and challenging event like this one.
This annoucement is published in both supporting forums (gtplanet and eutechnyx) and all players will be able to submit their entries in either of them, I'll keep the full list updated as soon as I'm able to do it.
For those of you familiar with the FC Edition of ROC, there are no big news here, the format is tested and has worked fine, anyway, I'm open to any suggestions you guys decide to make, so feel free to do it in this thread 👍
The Format:
After all interested SCC racers have applied, they will randomly be paired by the organizer (me) in head - to - head races. So, as an example, if we have 20 participants, we will have 10 pairings (I will post them in this thread) for "Round One".
Each Round will last for one full week (monday to sunday), so that's seven days for you guys to choose the schedule of your respective race.
It's up for the players "paired" to arrange the race time to meet. They must do it and they have to send me a PSN PM telling me the result. Of course you can write about your race in the relevant round thread also, but the PSN PM is MANDATORY for the result to be valid.
The winners of each pairing will proceede to the next Round, the losers will be eliminated, unless that particular Round grants "lucky loser" slots (details below).
The process will repeat itself each week for rounds 2 and subsequent until we are down to a "final pairing" and final race that will determine the "SUPERCAR CHALLENGE RACE OF CHAMPIONS ... CHAMPION"!
"Lucky Losers" Rule:
I have the objective of reaching a round with 8 players (4 pairings). That Round will in fact be the equivalent to the "quarter finals" of this event.
Now, how do I get that number of "survivors" (8) ? It will depend on the number of players applying for the first round.
The best example I can give you is what happened in the FC Edition of ROC, where we had 19 players applying for Round One.
It went like this:
Round One: 19 racers meant that we had 9 pairings and 1 racer that got a "bye" week and direct access to Round Two. In this round we also selected two "lucky losers".
Round Two: 12 racers raced it (9 Round One Winners + Player that got a "bye" week + 2 "lucky losers) and that gave us 6 pairings, with the inherent result being 6 winners and 6 losers. In this round we also selected two "lucky losers"
Round Three: We had 8 racers in this one (6 Round Two winers + 2 "lucky losers"), so we got our 4 pairings. No more "lucky losers", 4 players got through, 4 players got eliminated.
Round Four (semi-finals): With 4 players, we got two winners and two eliminated drivers.
Round Five (the "GRAND FINALE"): All 4 players raced again that week. The winners from Round Four decided between them who got the titlle of ROC-FC CHAMPION, the losers from Round Four raced for the "bronze medal" (third and fourth places).
This is what happened. Again, how things will work out in this event will depend on the number of racers/players applying for it. Details of all rounds and possible lucky loser slots will be given after the final list is known.
Now, how do we select the lucky losers? Simply, it will be done by checking, at the end of each Round's deadline, the "Hall of Fame" game leaderboards with the relevant car/track combo. Best time(s) there will grant access to the lucky loser slot(s) and, therefore, to the next round.
And now that the final list is known and has 20 players, here's what will happen:
Round 1 result - 10 winners + 2 lucky losers = 12
Round 2 result - 6 winners + 2 lucky losers = 8
Round 3 result - 4 winners
Round 4 result - 2 winners
Round 5 result - 1 winner, the SCC ROC Champion is found!
This way, we will "even" the possible unjustices we might get - in the first two rounds - from having pairs with similar and great skill and, at the same time, pairs where such similarity doesn't exist.
But please take note of this: The fastest laps of each player, to be valid, must be achieved without ANY assists (meaning, with the same conditions that apply to the event races), so take great care with your practising times. If you use assists in practise, you may not be able to replicate or better - without assists - the laptimes you achieve that way and, therefore, you won't have any valid lap shown in the relevant leaderboard.
The Cars and the Race Rules:
Each round a car/track/length/weather combo will be selected and announced, together with the pairings. You must comply with these settings (an example of how I will post each round specifics: Veyron/Virginia Raceway/10 minutes/wet )
No assists is default, unless BOTH RACERS agree to have them (I don't consider the Rev Bar or automatic transmission an assist, so those will be left free for each player to choose)
GTP OLR rules & guidelines apply for any issue about track behaviour. In case you don't know them, or if you have any doubt, check them here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=111241
The lobby will be opened by the first driver named in the pairings, and it will be a private lobby (all slots reserved) so you can race alone. However, if BOTH AGREE, you can invite friends to watch your race, but they will have to be very careful to not interfere with your race (they can't just park like in GT5P, because after 10 seconds stopped they get disqualified and sent back to lobby), so take good care of this, as it can be troublesome.
After thinking about these "other settings, I decided to make a few changes. Here they are:
1. GRID - Set it to FASTEST LAP. Unless both players in each pair decide otherwise, they will , before the actual event/round race, have a QUALIFYING session. How will they do this? Well, simply by doing first a 2 laps race. It will serve as a "warm up" for the event race but it will also define the grid for the following race, because the guy that gets the fastest laptime in this first short race will get pole position to the next. In order to achieve this, the host MUST set the Grid order to "FASTEST LAP".
2. COLLISIONS - SCC uses the same system as GT5P when a player gets a penalty, meaning, the car gets a speed-limiter for a set amount of time. This is unrealistic and, to be honest, I'd prefer the TRD3 system of the driver having added time ( a penalty of a few seconds) to his finish, but no "slow down" during the race. Also, besides unrealistic, this system is, in SCC, dangerous to the other(s) racing because they can encounter a slow car in the middle of the track (in GT5P this problem is avoided by "ghosting" the penalized car). So, in order to avoid this kind of stupid "wrecks", the collision setting must be put to "OFF WHEN PENALIZED", making this work like in GT5P, although the penalized car doesn't show up as such, in fact it gets ghosted during the penalty period.
3. PENALTIES - To avoid any problems concerning alleged advantages coming from short-cuts or forced collisions, there should be set a limited amount of penalties. Such limit will vary in each round and will be posted in the appropriate Round thread. generally speaking, the number of penalties allowed before disqualification will be always be lower than the number of laps each race will have.
Deadline to apply for this event, meaning for Round 1:
Next Saturday, October 10th, until 23:59 GMT
Sunday the pairings will be published in the Round 1 thread.
