Suzuki Baleno 2016

The new Suzuki Baleno hascaught my eye with its asian looks and low weight (should be under 1 ton). Sure, the 1.2 Dualjet 4 cylinder is just 66 kW, but for the weight it could be fun to drive.
I'm fed up with super/hyper cars appearing in later GTs more than average/everyday/family cars like this Baleno.

These are brilliant little cars. Not a fan of the looks but that boosterjet engine is fantastic. Put it in 2nd and put your foot down from 20mph and you'll hit the redline before you know it.

And, because of the 930kg(ish) kerb weight, it'll do 0-60 in about 9 seconds. For a 1 litre hatchback, pretty impressive.

Not the best steer though. This engine in a base model Swift 3 door would be the tattibojangles.

(Edited due to error of posted specs, should've looked it up myself instead of taking notes from a previous comment that ended up having false info. Thanks Famine for the research of the true specs)

Looks somewhat nice for an economy car, and has decent performance from what I can see. 113hp from the 1-liter Turbo but still manages to do 0-60mph in around 10 secs (0-62mph in 11 secs in Automatic, 11.4 in Manual). If Suzuki Autos was still in the states (still got Suzuki Bikes though) and they sold that Baleno in our market in that form, I would get it as an everyday commuter.

Though if they stayed and sold this, they would likely use the name of one of the similar cars in the US Market. They would've likely called it either the SX4 Sport or Reno, as it is about the same size (smaller length, but nearly identical width) as the last generation SX4 sold here (SX4 was also the successor to the Daewoo-based Reno). However, it would likely get heavier due to regulation safety addons which would make it slower.

(113hp from the 1-liter Turbo but manages to do 0-60mph in 9 sec due to it's lightness).
I thought I'd look up the official performance stats after these comments.

Baleno 1.0 SZ5 5DR BOOSTERJET MT - 11.4s
Baleno 1.0 SZ5 5DR BOOSTERJET AT - 11.0s

Hmm.

When Autocar/What Car tested the Baleno earlier in the year, they managed a two-direction average of 9.8s to 60mph, which suggests a pessimistic 0-62mph time and a gearchange in addition to the ~0.25s rule of thumb difference between 62mph times and 60mph times - but let's face it, 9.8 is "about 10", not "about 9" and certainly not "9".

Fair enough. Simple mistake...

Thanks for clearing it up Famine, I should've looked the car up in advance. I am not from the market that car is sold in and haven't researched the car before posting, but I heard "9 seconds" from another user on this page and assumed that was the original specs. Edited my previous post to the true specs you found.

Still, not bad for a economy car with 113hp (85kW). A Toyota Yaris in the US market with nearly identical specs will do 10.2 from 0-60, but is 118kg heavier and a 7hp less powerful (1068kg/106hp in Yaris vs 950kg/113hp in Baleno). If the Baleno had similar weight as the Yaris, it would likely still be around the same as a Yaris (between 10.0 to 10.5, depending on the effectiveness of it's gearing with a heavier load).
