Many years ago in Australian sports sedans someone shoe-horned a Chev 350 into the back of a Mini (old one).

It had a rather inauspicious debut in Victoria - it crashed (as one might expect) and caught fire - I understand the project was abandoned at that point...

vat_man,

Have you got any more details? I'd heard that it had been done but have been unable to back up my claims in a pub debate. I heard that it had been done using a trans-axle off a Renault.

A guy here at the office is in to heavily modded cars and knows of a mini with a hot engine in the back, I think it's a Vauxhall but that is the only other one i've heard of.

Cheers.

Geez, I'd be struggling - it was close to ten years ago, and this was based a conversation with a mechanic in the paddock at touring car races at Phillip Island and Winton. I never personally saw the car, and from my recollection it ran in the Victorian Sports Sedan championship round at Phillip Island, where it crashed.

I know very few details technically - I believe the motor was mounted transversely across the back seat (which may contributed to the crash!).

The 6 pot Mini is cool but I love the sound of the mid engined V8 Minis, I'd love to see some pics. If you are talking hot Minis though don't forget the Mini hotrod done by Rover themselves. In this company it seems fairly sane but is still worth mentioning. It had a 1403cc version of the A series engine with fuel injection, DOHC, 16 valves and 160bhp in the front. I've also heard of someone sticking a Lotus twin cam in the front of a Mini as well:D

i never really liked the mini. But i suppose 300hp is nice in any car.

just the look never caught on to me, like the vitz and clio
