I was watching Speed News and they said that Switzerland will end their nearly 50 year ban on professional auto racing events. Apparently, in the 1955 24 hour Le Mans race, a 50 year-old race car driver named Pierre Bouillon crashed his car, and ended up crashing into the stands, killing 83 spectators. They banned auto racing events in Switzerland after this terrible event.
Is there anyone here from Switzerland to confirm this? If it is true, will it be for the 24 hour of Le Mans only? The announcer said they will have to build an all new race course for this event. He did not mention any other type of racing.
Switzerland does have a few racing courses, but I think they are for car manufactures, and private owners, only. What ever course they decide to race, I hope they include this for a street course (see pic below). Ok, it looks like a rally race only course, but so what? It looks awesome!
BTW, I always thought they held some WRC events there. I guess I thought wrong.
