Have any of you played this game demo? I think, so far, it's a decent game, but it does have problems. It was set to be released in Spring 2004, but with the second demo game I've received with my OPM magazine, it has a new release date of Winter 2004. Sony made the right call, delay the game, and fix the bugs. Yep, this game has bugs in it, but, it's still a fun and challenging game.
Stats: I've been improving my performance, and have obtained a 64% shooting average, with the ELF at 69%. A total of 120-125 kills, with 95-100 being head shots. I can complete the demo with no, or one, deaths. I can complete the demo in 29 minutes, but if I skip shooting enemies, I can complete it in 20 minutes. I don't recommend doing this. The game freezes up sometimes, when you skip shooting people. It also causes a lot of enemies to show up at certain areas of the city.
Gear: You start out with a flashlight, pistol and the stun stick. But, later in the game, you find a pair of night visions googles that are needed to complete the game. You also get a bullet proof vest with either a rating of 100 or 250. You find more vests and ammo in black equipment chests scattered all over the city.
Weapons: The pistol you start with is fine, but you can find a different pistol with a burst function behind you when you first start the demo. Though, this pistol can ruin your shooting average, I always use it.
I love the .32 auto submachine gun you take off the very first CHA officer you encounter. You have to zap him with your stun stick. A very usefull weapon in the game. You can zap other CHA officers for more ammo, like the second CHA officer you have to zap inorder to retreive the code for the door that leads to the room where you'll find some needed equipment. What's great about the the .32 weapon is the ability to zoom in really close onto targets. This saves you from being shot at, while you take out the enemy. It's odd that you can zoom in closer with the .32 submachine gun, than with Proust's M-16 rifle, which has scope. I think Sony needs to change that.
Another favorite submachine gun, and best weapon in the demo, is the MP5 A5. You find it at the start level area, in a tent you crawl into. But, you have to wait to get into a CHA uniform first, or the guard will shoot and kill you. The shotgun, and the M-16 are not very good.
But the best weapon, if the demo lets you have it, is Proust's modified M-16 rifle. It's a silenced .45 auto loaded with Glaser Safety Slugs. You only get it twords the end of the demo. After killing Proust, the demo usually ends. But, if you don't collect the first water sample, you can play through the subway, use c4 collected from Proust, and go back the very start of the game. Or, if you collect all the samples, continue going through the subway station until you reach Proust. I always went back and after collecting the final water sample in the subway station, but you wont get to play with Prost's M-16 rifle. The demo ends after you kill Proust if you choose this route.
Objectives: Find some gear to take water samples with. Collect five water samples from certain areas around the city. Collect a tissue sample. Download them to HQ. Save CHA officers. Kill the enemy. Hunt down, and kill Proust.
Technique: The best thing to do when playing is crouch before you shoot. This will keep you stable for shooting. If you shoot standing up, your aim wobbles from side to side. It also helps you target your enemies better when using auto-targeting. Your targets turn green, yellow or red with it. Red is the best.
Stealth is the key. Walk carefully, and you can sneak up your enemy and kill him with a head shot before he even notices you. The .32 is the best weapon for this kind of technique.
Kill your enemy by aiming the gun yourself. This is the only way to get a head shot. It has one big drawback. It moves very slowly, if you need to shoot at enemies that are very close up. Best way to target enemies is to click the auto-target button quickly, then press the manual aim, and aim for the enemies head. One shot, and they're down.
When shooting at enemies, that pop up behind you, do a quick roll to throw off their aim after they have targeted you. It throws them off, and you wont get hit with their shots, and lets you target them before they can target you again.
The roll maneuver is great for entering those tubes that are the only entrance to certain tents that you must enter in the game. Run straight for the tubes opening, and hit the roll button just before you reach it.
It's a fun demo, but it has it's fair share of bugs, though. If Sony can clean it up some, I'll buy Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain when it comes out.
So, have you guys played it yet?
