Tableless Layout - Complete

Well to prove to Sunny that I can make a website layout and to set a test to myself, I attempted a tableless layout. Well, I completed and decided I'd apply it to my current website.

I did use tables once, and that was do hold thumbnails for my wallpaper, etc galleries. I could've mucked around for ages in Dreamweaver setting up a heap of DIV ids in my CSS file, but it was late and I'd had enough of CSS towards the end.

Anyway, click your mouse here to visit mah tableless site! It works on IE6 and Mozilla Firebird, but other than that I wouldn't know.

No worky in Safari.

Anyway, I just finished moving my site to a completely CSS-based design a week or so ago. :)

Yes, your site works wonders on Opera7. I had a look with Internet Explorer 5 and this is a good comparison.

Oh and I like how the site is vertically centered 👍!!

And I'd like to add that your site is superlicious...one of the best designed sites I've seen here.

What exactly is tableless anyway?

Awesome site you have there Shannon. Nice wallpapers as well. I'm using one of them right now. 👍

You're only 13. Wow.

Thanks everone. :)

Not using tables to layout your site, but instead using complex nesting of DIV layers and many lines of CSS.

Thanks, and yeah, not too many people believe me when I said I was 13.

awesome layout 👍 i'm guessing you used divs? If you did, there's faaar more in the div statements for you to play around with that dreamweaver doesn't know about unless you manually type it in... i suggest you play around and keep it up. Also, have u considered doing this sort of thing for money? My friends put together 2 years ago www.bytesector.com - they've been averaging 1.2 million hits per month since summer. Through maintaining this site, other companies hire them occasionally to build websites. After my exams are over, i'll be doing far more reviews than the 2 crappy mousepad ones i have posted on there currently.

Thanks. Yeah, I used DIVs, and I know I could've mucked around more with it but the basics were enough for my layout.

I haven't really thought about making money out of web design, after all, I don't think anyone would be interested in a 13 year old amateur. :indiff:

my friends started @ 12 and their portfolios started to get recognised by the time they were about 14. In the world of computers, age doesn't matter unless you're out to get a professional office job. Else i could have been administering networks ages ago. I started playing around with graphic arts around the same time but never took enough interest to stick to it for very long :(

Nah, a nice simple logo would probably do it. Nothing too fancy.
It still loads faster without the logo. ;)

I'm going to change the colour theme soon (monotone is starting to look dull) so I might think about planting a logo somewhere...

I love the site. The links are very helpful. I am working on my frat's website as things are. I have little knowledge base in web design, but I love to learn. I am using some of those links for help. Nice job Shannon.

Thanks. :)

Great job, Shannon! Simple websites such as that are the best - just what you need and nothing else. Keep up the great work, and keep learning!

Jordan, this is an odd occurance your visiting the deep and untouched tranquility of the Web Design forum!

And yes Shannon, you'll need to teach me some CSS, since tables are totally last year so I can be all trendy as such. Great job, add a colour scheme I have some good colours for you, I might PM them to you.

Over and Out!

Or you can learn it for yourself. It isn't as hard as it seems. ;)

Yeah, I suppose another PM in my message box won't hurt...
