Tablet with best screen

Hi.

I have an iPad. I'd like to get a new tablet but the screen has to look better. I think iPad screen sucks when doing anything with text like email, web, ibooks etc. Text is terrible. Not crisp or anything. IPad resolution sucks in my opinion. The screen overall is nice. I just don't like how bad text looks online.

I prefer Android to ios in some ways and want a non ios tablet. The main thing I'm after is better screen. Clearer crisper text. So I'm wondering if anyone has seen them all and which has the best screen.

I won't get 3g tablet. Stupid cus I don't want stupid contract. It's not a freaking phone. I do want gps for voice turn by turn. But gps is not necessary.

I'll have both iPad and non ios actually. Might wait for better res ipad.

I thank you.

My mate got himself a tablet which is called "Adam". It's quite cool, easy to read and his has Wifi only. Oh and it has GPS as well.

It also runs on Android, so I think it might be what you're looking for. ;)

All the tablets have rather similar resolution at the moment. The iPad has the best screen overall.

It'll be pretty much the same if they're running similar resolutions.

Kinda sucks considering iPad sucks big time with text on the web, email and ibooks, :( but I bet res isn't the only way to guess how it might be with text. Is good start though.

Yeah, sorry, but none of the tablets are particularly outstanding in this regard. You aren't gonna find anything close the same pixel density as say, the iPhone 4's Retina display.

Rumor has it that the next iteration of the iPad could in fact have a Retina display, but then again, they were saying that about the iPad 2 as well. Waiting to see if the rumors pan out would probably be your best bet. 👍

Yeah true. I want to wait and make the next tablet I get have a much better res. Sadly I don't think that'll happen till 2013 at earliest. Unless Apple does it. But I want both iPad and non ios too. Just not sure like of course don't know when a good screen tablet comes out.

Good lord.. Is there a photo anywhere of it on their site? The introduction video pisses me off to no end because there is no picture/video of the actual product. Stupid marketing.

Agreed.
Terrible resolution.
It does not even mention what it is. No software nothing.
But it does sound cool from the little info there is.

Right now I'd look at thrive and galaxy tab 10.1 and when its out the galaxy tab 8.9.

You say you are looking for crisper text, like when reading e-books, etc. If reading e-books is your main goal, you might want to consider an e-reader, those are specifically optimized for text. No browsing on those though. ;)

I've had no problems reading text on my Xoom with its 1280x800 display (which is 60% larger than ipad btw). In fact I use it for an e-book reader (although I do have a Kindle also). The Xoom runs Android OS 3.2.

There's also the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which appears to be built on the same hardware as the Xoom. I have no idea how the Samsung stacks up against either the ipad or Xoom though.

I don't ebook read, I only used ibooks as an example of how ugly text is on the iPad. WWW same ugliness in the text.

I have wondered about tablets using the 1280*800 res compared to the iPad at 1024*768. I wonder being the 1280 tablet uses a 10.1" screen vs the smaller 9.7" screen. And how much of a help the 1280 screen is.

I'll have iPad and non iPad sometime. I know I can go see in person but that is to me a waste of time and money when I'm not buying anything for a while.

60%? No, it's more like 30. The iPad is 1024x768

An improvement definitely, but not exactly worlds apart.

And the Galaxy Tab's display is even lower resolution than the iPad at 1024x600.

You're absolutely right. My mistake.

Not according to the specs shown here. I understand there's more than one Samsung Galaxy Tab (a 7 inch and a 10.1 inch?), perhaps that's why the confusion.

Every Tab I've tested the text is clear and easily legible. And to my eyes its very crisp and clear. You do not need a super pixel dense screen to read text on a 7", 9.7". 10.1" screen. A retina display on a 9.7-10.1" screen is useless for text, unless you like eye strain and reading tiny text in a wall of text.

Edit: Almost all tablets have the same screen resolution. The only difference is back lighting and color brightness and none of those enhance text.

I got the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 yesterday. It's not bad. I think the screen is barely better than the ipad for text. Some stuff I wish honeycomb did though and there's no tablet only section in marketplace. No way to tell what is tablet app unless the info says. Anyway.
