Hey guys,

I haven't seen a thread on this particular game around here (nor on the first three pages of threads on this subforum), but I apologise if it already exists somewhere else.

Basically there's a Kickstarter on at the moment for a game called Takedown, though its former name should give more of a clue what it is; it's a FPS in the vein of Ghost Recon (2001), Rainbow Six (pre-Vegas) and the SWAT series. In fact it could be described as being to Rainbow Six Vegas 2 what Arma II is to Battlefield 3, I suppose; a simulator of CQB style indoor combat rather than another Call of Duty style run & gun affair.

I don't mean to sound like I'm selling it, because I know it's not a particularly popular genre (not to mention advertising being against the rules), but if the Kickstarter fails then you get your money back, if it doesn't then you don't but you do get a copy of the game (if you donate over a certain (surprisingly low) level). It's essentially copying the Project CARS model, except for one difference which is kind of polarising opinion on the whole project...

Basically, their Kickstarter goal is $200,000 (they were on $95,000+ with 5 days left when I donated earlier). They have investors lined up for the rest, but the investors have apparently said that they'll only invest if there's evidence of a sufficient audience. Quite how this works, I have no idea, seeing as how it would be possible for Serellan (the developer) to hit $200,000 entirely from $15 donations, which gets you the game on Steam anyway, and then no sales beyond that. They're probably smarter than me, though, so whatever.

Anyway, I thought I'd just make you all aware that if you like hardcore tactical shooters where your health doesn't regenerate and you die in one, maybe two hits, you have a chance to help create something a bit newer than SWAT 4, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six 3. Personally I'm quite excited about the whole thing, but frankly they're under half of their total and only have 5 days left so it's not looking good... I worry that if this fails, all potential hardcore shooter developers will see this example of a failure and not bother, and that would be a shame.

I won't post a link to the Kickstarter because I really don't want to get banned for advertising, but if you're interested you probably know how to find it. I can only hope there are like-minded gamers around here who will also try and spread the word!

p.s. They will be developing it for the PS3 and 360, but the PC is the lead platform.
