Taskbar freezes and LONG log in time...HELP!

My log in time for Windows XP is more than 5 minutes, and everything else is running at normal speed...except my taskbar freezes often and I cannot click on Start, QuickLunch, or any of my running programs.

Need help, this **** is annoying as hell

Thanks in advance,

I've had the problem too. I noticed that when it happens, you can close off all the windows and the desktop will just be blank. By that, I'd guess that Explorer.exe is being overstressed for no apparent reason. For me it's very random - i have no control as to when it'll occur (luckily it's only about once every 3-4 days for me)

For me it happens everyday and I just cant STAND the log in time. I am thinking about reformating my drive, but I have well over 60 gigs of stuff and I have no clue where I'm going to place all that while I reformat my harddrive( Maxtor 120GB ).

Thanks for any input, really need a solution for this one!

Have you tried deleting your local profile?

Just a guess, but maybe something in the profile is stuffing your logon up. Do you have any other user accounts on your pc? do they take just as long?

It happens for me, too. Even though I'm using 2kPro, it happens, it also happens on an Xp machine downstairs.

Are you attached to a network?

Happens to me all the time, it's explorer.exe having a fit. Sometimes it (explorer) throws up an error and refuses to start back up, so then I have to manually run explorer.exe from Alt+Ctrl+Del.

XP = 👎, I seriously need to get me a copy of Win2K.

do you mean like a cable network? yes, I have mediacom
not sure if that's what you are asking though. I'm not connected to any other computer though.

The reason why I'm asking is because it just started to happen recently.

Just out of curiosity...what motherboards do you guys have...? I know it sounds rediculous to blame motherboard for this but I'm just running out of ideas

why don't you just partition your 120 gig and place all your data onto the new partition. That way, you can reformat the c:\ drive and reinstall windoze with no problem...

You know, 2K and XP are NT based, which also means services are starting up even after the desktop shows up. For me, when I start up, it seems to be going well, but if I click anything in the start menu, it freezes. If I leave it for a little while so it can finish starting up it becomes unstuck. With 98 and earlier as soon as the desktop came up, it was finished. Next format I do I'm going to see what I do right before that happens.

i've got an MSI kt3 Ultra with defective usb ports and *possibly* defective microphone port (I found out the parts didn't work more than a year after i bought it :( )
My parents have the same motherboard on their office computer...well, the computer they use for their business is identical to mine in terms of hardware and most of the software even and they don't have this problem...

___

as a possible fix, have you guys attempted the service tweaking @ www.blackviper.com?
