For those of you that don't know Tasker is an app available for android phones that allows phone automation to an amazing degree via location, time and numerous other variables.
While doing a search prior to starting this thread @Danoff came up but not many other names.
Does anyone use it and what do you think of it?
Care to share some thoughts on profiles you have come up with for your phone.
I myself have been using it on and off for a little while but am no means an expert with it. Some of the basic things I have my phone do automatically for me are.
At home.
: Turn on Wifi.
: When sitting on my charger at night it knows I'm going to sleep and disables all incoming calls/texts apart from important numbers that I want to be able to contact me at any time.
: On weekdays just prior to getting up it reads out the days weather forecast out and opens my weather app.
In the Car.
: I swipe my phone on a NFC tag on my sunvisor to begin the car profile.
: Connects to the cars blue-tooth.
: Reads out any incoming texts.
: If I then plug the phone into the cradle it will open Maps and keep the screen on permanently.
: Upon leaving the car (lost connection to blue-tooth) the phone switches off blue-tooth. Going to tweak this one so that bluetooth stays on for 5-10mins after exiting car, so if it's just a quick trip into the shop the process is automatic and doesn't need the phone to be swiped again to start the profile.
At work.
: Between 7:15 and 7:30 for our daily meeting goes into silent mode and sends an automatic text to any calls that I will contact them shortly.
: After that time turns up all volumes to the maximum as my work at times can be noisy.
Riding my bike.
: I swipe an NFC tag under the seat to start the profile.
: Silences all incoming calls and texts apart from my wife.
: Again sends an automatic message to any missed calls and texts that will I contact them when I can.
These sort of things I do are just the basics and only scratch the surface of what can be done with Tasker.
One word of warning for those who haven't used or seen Tasker in action it does require a little bit of a learning curve. Nothing that can't be overcome by a bit of reading that's available at numerous places on the net.
