So, since GT7 is obviously on the next gen after PS3, of course it will have an improved graphics, loading times, sound system (mind you, not the sample aka. the car sounds we love to complain. Both are different), and other encachments. But how improved are they?

We already seen GT6 struggle with its tesselation by its framerate. Not to mention blocky shadows, occasional aliasing, etc. Also, since this is PS4, the loading times should be greatly improved. While the GT6 is pretty okay, just imagine if GT7 has seamless loading. We can play on the go without even waiting. :P

Not to mention the sounds system (Dolby version something) and also the others (32 cars in a race, etc). Discuss.

i would love it if we could get over 100 cars on one track, though it would have to be limited to Nürburgring and Circuit de la Sarthe BUT STILL. anyway are there limits irl for the amount of cars on one track?

1.GT6 didn't have tessellation in races, only in photo travel on select cars and the framerate was in the 20s range.
2. I wouldn't be surprised if PD shot for 4k res, they're crazy enough to do that.
3. Hopefully they don't and instead shoot for 1080p/60fps locked in all cases.
4. Shadows and overall lighting should be much better, higher res cube maps on cars or maybe screen-space reflections similar to DriveClub.
5. The loadings to races should be instant, especially on tracks that are coming from PS2/3 without improvements.
6. Hopefully they make friggin physics settings universal for all cars, I bloody hated the need to turn TCS and ABS to 0 for every single car manually. Honestly, whats up with that nonsense.
7. Sounds might be improved but wouldn't bet on it, their samples are mostly cars revving in neutral with just 4 channels, so it is very unlikely for them to match competition, but at least they could make sounds passable.
8. Hopefully they change the cockpit camera and FOV, it is absolutely atrocious the way it's set up right now.
9. Fix the HDR. Right now Willow Springs for example looks like somebody blows up an atomic bomb in the background every morning and evening.

5: I think instant loading is a bit much to ask for, The disk drive is generally the bottle neck so even with a much faster CPU and GPU it still has to load data from the disk and that takes a little time.

6: I like the ability to set TCS on one car and not on another, Would be nice to be able to set a default value that will auto apply to each new car you get into but still have the ability to change the setting on that car without impacting the others.

8: I would really like to see them add a proper hood view for all cars as an option and have that view also include and optional rear view mirror. That would be better for many of us than any view currently in the game.

Agreed. Bad game design to have things like ABS and TCS etc. in a separate pop up menu. Those settings should be in the tuning menu for individual cars and we should be allowed to have individual tunes with any combination of these settings we choose.

Along with a proper hood view, I'd like to see much more customization of course, but particularly in the HUD. I'd like to be able to mix and match any info I want on the screen, have more info options, and be able to size the boxes or alter the display. I'd also like to be able to disable the chatbox while I'm racing online.

WRT loading times, as I recall GT4 took longer to boot than GT original or GT2 did (don't recall gt3, didn't play it much) and GT5 took much longer to load than GT4. Accordingly, I'd expect GT7 to take even longer to load.

Tessellation are in races. Have you ever noticed how pixelated the cars in the distance looked? They looked like they got rear ended a billion times, but once you go closer, the cars Tessellated into their correct design.
Haven't noticed any difference from GT5, stll plenty of LoD pop-in.

Wonder how big installfile will be with better looking game, more cars and tracks and better sound and trackcreator. How big is GT6 now?

I was about the say something like that. Tessellation is there, and it's pretty amazing they were able to implement it in a PS3 game.
I'm hoping WONDERS for GT7 on PS4, at least graphically. The same question appears in every end cycle of a Playstation console, Are they going to be able to improve the graphics? And they always do...
But anyway, let's hope that this time this eagerly waited change of generation comes with SOUNDS.

There's adaptive tessellation in GTA IV and V too. It's nothing special. :P

On PS4 all games are installing about 20GB on the harddrive so I'm geussing GT7 would be around that figure at first and then start groing as GT5 did and GT6 does.

I believe PD can accomplish great things. If ONLY they shift their approach ever so slightly.

Source? I don't think there's tesselation in any GTA game. The xbox360 wouldn't even be able to support it.

As for technical advancements in GT7, I'm expecting them to implement a full global illumination lighting engine similar to Driveclub, but at 60fps.

Driveclub is a good standard to start, but my main problem with Driveclub is that their trees and environment looks absolutely cartoonish in my opinion.

Also remember that just because it's a more powerful console, it doesn't mean they can just linearly improve everything at the same level unless they stick with the same goals. Some sacrifices will still have to be made like how Driveclub sacrificed frame rate for visuals. It's all a matter where PD prioritize their work. Again, IF they stick with 16 cars and 1080p/60fps, then the game will probably be drop dead gorgeous. But knowing PD and their ambition, theyll probably go for more insane resolution and more cars per track while keeping 60fps as the target, thus sacrificing some in visuals and other fields like weather physics, damage, etc.

Honestly 16 is plenty for me. I don't see the need for anything more than 24 for single player race. Online may be a factor though. Who knows maybe PD will have a more advanced implementation of how they handled Sierra with countless AI on the track.

Personally hope they won't go crazy with resolution. After playing battle front with its stunning visuals and only 900p on the ps4, it's just amazing to me. I always thought the jump from 1280 to 1440x1080p was unnecessary and GT6 could've probably benefit a lot had they stick with 1280x1080p. Sometimes I think Kaz is overly ambitious for his own good.

Yeah, Driveclub does have a serious foliage problem that people don't seem to notice. Those dry tracks look absolutely stunning but the green tracks are just too damn colorful.

Here are my predictions:

GT7 will not have less than 24 cars on track (could be as much as 32 on some tracks), just because Forza 6 has 24 and this is a big marketing thing.

Resolution will be 1080p, no more than that. The GPU in the PS4 cannot do 4K (technically it can but only at 10-15 fps for next gen visual levels). Even with 1080p, I don't expect excellent AA or advance lighting like in drive club.

Car geometry detail will be much lower than in driveclub (which has 300k polys per car, if I'm not mistaken), project cars has 60k, I expect the poly count to be closer to PCars than to drive club.

In terms of what PD try graphically, this version of GT will be modest relative to previous iterations and the focus will be on a more polished effort.

I just hope it sells well, I'm expecting poor sales even if the game is excellent (poor by GT3, 4 and 5 standards). I just believe that the mass market has just moved away from the simcade formula and that the potential market for games like GT and Forza is only going to shrink.

framerate in the 20s range? ehh no.

Never went below 30, if it did then that's a one in a 10,000 moment.

Circuito De La Sierra is an example, you have a lot cars on the track at once but they are quite far apart, a smart way to make the PS3 handle it, PS4 will handle atleast 32 cars.

Driveclub has 250 000 polygons per car.

Probably closer to PCars, but as PCars shows you can somewhat make up for the lower poly count with normal maps and various forms of rendering trickery. GT5 and 6's models were always the most accurate and detailed of the last generation, and I expect Sport to be no different, save for Driveclub.

I hope everything is leveled out for full 60fps gameplay. GT5 was a good attempt but now we have (GDDR5) 8GB ram, thats 16x than what the PS3 had.

Why the polygons in GT7 will be lower than in GT5/6? I don't remenber the exact number, but i think that is around 300k polygons on the PS3, right?

Yes, my bad, in photomode of course (it would be impossible in game for the PS3)
So yeah, we could hope for a GT7 with 500k polygons in game ...maybe

That is both unlikely and unnecessary. The 500k detail of cars is so you can see every little piece in fine detail, zoomed in. We've all seen those stunning photomode photos with ridiculous levels of details. That is where the extra polys go. In game, that is obviously not necessary, you don't need to have everything in fine detail whilst driving.

Some cars in GT6 have higher texture quality in "static" operations (photomode location, menus), such as the Celica GT-Four ST205 (which has an atrocious texture quality anyway). 💡

And even then, it was really only 256MB dedicated to the GPU. Looking back, it's amazing what some developers - especially Sony's first-party teams - were able to accomplish with such limited hardware.
