Years.
That's how long I have now been a member of this site for. A decade. 3,652 days. 521.71 weeks. 120 months.
I first stumbled across this lovely corner of the interwebs all the way back in 2004 as a wee 14-year-old that was an avid Gran Turismo 2 player, and found it was the perfect place for tips, tricks and general discussion for that game. Signed up to ask a few questions and, well, the rest is history. Fast-forward ten years and I'm known as "that weird Kiwi fella with the Taylor Swift avatars"
In these ten years I've seen the forum explode into something truly impressive, a one-stop shop for anything Gran Turismo-related but still managing to maintain a very diverse range of subject matter outside of the subfora that forms the "core" of the site. At first I spent most of my time in the GT forum - it was very different back then compared to now, in a good way - but somewhere near the end of that year I started to wander out into some of the other forums on the site, mainly the Gaming in General (now known as Console & PC Gaming) forum and the Rumble Strip. Shortly after that I discovered Travian and BATracer, which became massive timesinks when playing with the GTP crew(s); the Conversation Forum arrived which brought with it some hilarity (I vaguely remember something about Blackbird's cookies), it then departed almost as quickly as it had arrived; Premium came about, and along with it the super-secret Premium forum whereplans to take over the world are formulated all sorts of crazy things happen.
Over time I found myself playing GT less and less, until a couple of years ago - around the advent of GT5 - when I wasn't playing it much, if at all. This brought with it a shift to being in the Infield, Computers & Tech and Console/PC Gaming forums almost exclusively, with the main one being the Infield. It's nice having a little slice of the internet where you can have eloquent, well-thought-out discussions about all sorts of things
It's good to see that some familiar names from 2004 are still around, however some of the more memorable members from that time period are long gone - Rumple Foreskin, Race Idiot and MistaX to name but a few. I still remember some of the users at the top of the banned user log, yet am only familiar with three or four of those added to the BUL since 2011!
I love this site and the people on it that I regularly converse with - so here's to another ten years Thanks for finding a way to whittle away a decade of my life, @Jordan.
