I feel like most Christopher Nolan movies are a bit overhyped but are still great movies. I'm quite excited, however, I don't feel safe going to movie theaters yet. I really hope either things get better quick or maybe have it back in theaters once this is all over

I was listening to a movie podcast today and while they're holding off the full review until next week when it's released, that critic loved it but thinks it won't be for everyone. Essentially his view is if you liked Inception then you'll love this, but like Inception you need to be paying attention.

I loved Inception myself, and am really looking forward to Tenet. It sounds like the multiplexes here are likely to put it on hard rotation in more or less every screen they have, so that they can get some numbers in while still properly observing Covid restrictions. As long as I'm comfortable with the measures my regular cinema has in place then I'll be going, but I'll be double checking first.

Unusual overpass design...there's two set of wide pedestrian stairs from the bridge to the median, though they appear to be no longer used.

Were there once sidewalks down there, @unit-one?

Originally it was planned to build an express tram system between the roads, connecting the city centre with the eastern edge of the city. The stairs would have lead to the tram stops.

Edit:

BTW, the movie premiered over here on 26th of August at midnight.

No spoiler review

He gives it an B+. It's more complex than Inception and will most likely require more than one viewing to understand. It's a plot heavy movie with not a lot of emphasis on the characters. There are the usual Nolan quirks like a loud score over soft dialogue (which I disliked in Interstellar)

behind the scenes

Finally got to watch this! It was really good. Definitely going to rewatch it a couple times. If you have already seen it, I recommend going to r/Tenet subreddit. They have an FAQ and diagrams that explain some of the stuff in the movie

I think this video essay does a really good job of explaining the main faults for this movie that I agree with completely

(Spoilers for Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet in the video)

Some of my thoughts on the movie:

Overall, I think the movie is really good. All of the action sequences are amazingly made, especially the car chase scene and the red-blue room scene. The way the inversion is interwoven with everything is very well done.

However, there's barely any character development and there's no real emotion in any of the motivation. Sure she wants to see her son and he wants to save her, but they've barely made any emotional connection and nothing really changes in their characters. We see the Protagonist and Neil's friendship start, but the whole emotion to it is that their friendship truly happens after the film and that we'll never see it.

The whole issue with exposition that the video essay talks about is also something I had noticed. It's really disappointing as the concept of the movie is so good.

And of course, the audio mixing is so perplexing. Nolan is adamant that this is what he wants for the film, but it's sooooo difficult to understand what anyone is saying. The only good thing about his audio mixing is the feeling of the bass, but I didn't get to experience it for this film as I had watched it at home. Speaking of bass, the soundtrack is incredibly good. It's super interesting to hear the songs in reverse.

I've watched this twice now, the first time I got what was going on generally but I enjoyed it much more the second time when I could see why certain things weere done and said and peice it all together much better.

I've seen it 4 times now, twice at the cinema (fantastic in IMAX!) and twice at home. I still noticed new little things the last time - I absolutely love this movie.

I finally watched the movie! Still have many questions on how everything works...
But for me, the funny part was the car chase at Laagna road in Tallinn. Although they were travelling in one direction from the city center, actually they filmed the scenes on both lanes that go towards and from the city center and in some scenes it's pretty obvious that they are passing the same place multiple times in both directions. =)

And it was weird seeing the Tallinn Linnahall as an Ukrainian location and the Kumu Art Museum being connected to the airport when IRL the airport is pretty far away. =)

I really enjoyed this. Noticed early on that some parts were backwards, but I couldn't pinpoint what's going on exactly until the very end. Really well executed. 👍

Watched it yesterday and I enjoyed it. It was a little predictable and I found it less complex on the whole compared to either Inception or Interstellar. Its not something I'll revisit for a while.
