Okay, I'll make the intro short, you dig? He's one of the more controversial figures in the NFL. He got his 100th Touchdown with no celebration. He's one of the liveliest figures in all of the NFL today. With the recent round of controversy, that led me to making this thread. This thread is all about Terrell Owens. What do you think about him? Would you want him on your team?

And you know, I would be highly surprised if I don't see at least one post knocking T.O.

Terrel Owens is, to put it as nice as I can, a billion dollar talent run by a two-cent brain. What he has in talent will never, ever make up for the fact that this guy is a sore spot on EVERY team he has ever played for since college.

I use to be a Terrel fan… I loved the showboat style he had/has… he was/is very entertaining to watch. In San Fran, I could see how he would get frustrated with the organization and a QB that I found to be less the stellar. His last season there was a heart breaker as well, it’s not often you see a team with a winning record, not make the playoffs, so I cut him some slack… Okay, I cut him A LOT of slack.

That being said… the recent problems he’s caused, is causing, and will likely continue to pose in Philadelphia or any other team he plays for, raises the question “Can this guy ever be as good as he says he can be?” There have now been two seasons that have ended in “questionable” injuries… Injuries that are hard to determine whether or not they were as bad as he says they were (Strained shoulder and pulled groin/strained knee), or simply because he didn’t feel it was worth putting in the effort to make anything more happen. It looked to me like last years injury in Philadelphia was an attempt to make the team “see” just how important he was to the team, in order to renegotiate his contract, which he attempted to do this year. I’m sure had Philly simply folded in the first round, he’d have gotten his money this year. But what Terrel didn’t count on was, unlike in San Fran, he simply wasn’t the best player on Philly’s team… and they did just fine without him, I might add. So now, we have an ego who’s ideal has just blown up in his face. What’s the ego to do? Sling allegations on other players on the team such as, Donovan McNabb got tired and that Todd Pinkston wouldn’t take punishment for his team (more on this last one later). People should remember, “Just because you talk the loudest, doesn’t mean you’re the one who’s right”. Some people then jumped on the blame wagon, forgetting all together that technically, Terrel never even made the playoffs… he was on the side line nursing his groin and his knee, yet visibly jumping up and down and carrying on off the field all the while. Reid should have never let him dress for the Bowl game. Also, the only playoff game they lost, was the one Terrel played in. Now back to his comments about his teammates. Of course Donovan was more tired then Terrel… he never had an 8 game resting period. And as for Pinkston, first off, he’s a #2 receiver and a speed guy, not a bang em up kind of receiver. Secondly, knowing his own limitations and his team’s needs, he wasn’t willing to get injured (for his own interest) leaving his team with no viable options at wide receiver (his team’s interests) with Terrel already on the sidelines. I’m not even a Philly’s fan… this is just to show that Terrel is nowhere near as smart as he thinks, or tries to get others to believe, he is.

Does he have the talent to be the best? Sure. Will he ever be? Never, unless he changes the way he does business in and around the league. I’d much rather have any of the countless numbers of great receivers in the league today over Terrel… not based on what the body can do, but what the mind and will can do. It’s like they say, “Lead your mind, your ass will follow” Unfortunately for Terrel, it doesn’t work the other way around.

Great post Canadian Speed. I agree with you that I would never want Terrell on my team, there are so many other great receivers out there in the NFL who don't cause nearly as much trouble on their team as he does (ex. Steve Smith, Marvin Harrison, Hines Ward, even Randy Moss). The fact is that even though he has undeniable talent, he stirs up way too much **** to make anybody care.

I heard a perspective on the radio that I tend to agree with more every time I think about it. All they said was this, "The guy is completely, 100% nuts." Who else does their workouts in their front yard in front of reporters and neighbors when they get kicked out of training camp. I don't see why so many spend so much time trying to justify his actions, he's just insane.

If Philly wants to turn things around, they need a receiver who can respect McNabb (One of the best QBs in the NFL, and I'm not just saying that 'cause he's from Syracuse) and make the big plays without all of the controversy on the sidelines. I think T.O. has more than worn out his welcome in Philly, and although if he moved on I'm sure he'd get a hefty contract, he'll never again make the kind of money that the Eagles are paying him now.

There's so many great receivers in the NFL right now, the Eagles should pick somebody else up and forget about this insane egomaniac. I'd like to hear the opinion from an Eagles fan, but from what I've seen, most Eagles fans think that he's just as obnoxious as I do.
