'Tis the season to be getting fit (Well, in the northern hemisphere). The mountain of christmas snacks are going stale, Easter eggs have come and gone surprisingly quick, the weather is getting better.

So, here's a fairly quick and simple test you can do.

It's called the cooper run and all you require is a stopwatch, about 15 mins of you time and a track that you know the length of (400metre running track preferably).

What you need to do. Simple, run as far as you can in 12 mins, then see how far you've gone. To work out how you compare to the general population, check here.

I ran 2750m which for my age puts me in the above average fitness bracket.

I'll probably die before the end of the first lap... Yep - It's good to be a procrastinator !...

lol nice one mate, I used to be able to do some mad things on the athletics track but now If I run a 100m race consecutively I will need a puking up bucket.

You can walk it aswell. Might not give very flattering results but if at anytime you choose to get fit it'll be a marker to show any improvement.

Well I'm not in great shape and I can do a mile in the high 5's when I'm warmed up and going pretty good, so I'm guessing in 12 minutes I could do a little over 2 miles while pacing myself. I know I need to get better.

I did this for school a few weeks back actully. I did 2.6km, could of done a bit more, but at the end of the second to last lap I thought the teacher said time was up, so I started to walk, then he told me to keep going and I just wasn't ready to start running again.
It was a whole lot easier than I thought it'd be. One of my friends did 3.1km, which is a fair bit!
