To set the stage: I just started racing online. I'm new to the game, new to online play in general, and still fairly new to my PS5.

I've noticed that people can text while racing. I'm assuming it's a voice-to-text option, but I can't figure it out. I tried to ask someone how they do it, but because I was doing clumsy texts with a keyboard the room closed before I could get a response. I really would like to be able to communicate with folks using a race, especially if I screwed up and want to apologize. Unfortunately, it appears that PS5 so protective of its proprietary options that they have a "voice-to-text" feature that cannot yet be activated. Am I missing something? Can you help me figure this out?

Is speech-to-text while driving only something that can be done on a PC?
If it's possible on a PS5, can you help me figure out how to do it?

If you "pause" the game, it auto-drives for you and you can chat, though it only gives you like 30 secs worth of auto-drive

Personally, I have a stenographer on hand and those rammers will be receiving a sternly written letter within 12-16 days

There are 2 ways to chat whilst racing.
Headphones and mic using a party with your friends.

The chat function during a race. This is done by pausing the game and selecting chat. Input your message and send. You will be in autodrive whilst you do this which is o.k. on a straight but very slow in a corner so not recommended.

A couple of things.....

1) GT7 is a PS exclusive title. It is not available for PC nor XB.

2) The text chat feature in GT7 is an in-game component, nothing to do with your PlayStation's messaging feature, voice commands, voice to chat, etc. The limitations are in the game itself. As mentioned, you can either party chat using you PS5's party chat feature or use the in-game text chat option provided by GT7 to communicate with others.

3) PS5 does have a voice to chat feature in Messages IIRC but it's the voice command option I believe you're thinking about. That is currently still in beta I believe. .....two different things but again, the PS Messages that you would send to friends or other PS users is not the same as GT7's in-game text chat.

.....nothing to do with Sony protecting its "proprietary options" or anything like that. It's just a limitation of the game.

Despite many of the responses above, there absolutely was an app for this in sport. It's a mobile app on your phone that is synced through the PS app I believe.
I don't know the name, I've never used it, but had 2 guys on my team who used it when they hosted rooms.
I'm not aware of an app that works for GT7 yet though, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

It's funny when someone rage quits out and then has a little whinge and you can see it pop up mid-race, always get a chuckle out of that, a nice new feature.

This is what I meant by “proprietary” for PS5. They don’t have, as far as I can tell, a way to sync a phone with the PS5 in order to speak to text. There’s an elaborate workaround with an app on the phone, but it only allows use of the keyboard in a really inefficient way. Sony is definitely restricting this ability, and it appears to be for a later feature using voice commands which, as stated above, is still in beta. They don’t even have an accessibility feature for speech-to-text while they do offer text-to-speech. So something is up on Sony’s end, although it’s good to know the feature isn’t offered in GT7 either at this point.
