Do any of you guys and girls use a TFT screen? What are your excperiences?

I'm planning to get one to be able to have a smaller desktop since I practice the true art of compact living. But right now I'm on my sis:s iBook and I'm getting second thoughts since it's such a strain on my eyes. I have turned the screen brightness to the lowest level, and even in that faint light it is giving me a slight headache after 30 mins..

Is this a problem associated with TFT:s or is it this iBook being 3 years old and out of date causing this?

Eventual lag in response is no problem since I rarely play any games on my computer.

I use a TFT all day at work, it's a Samsung syncmaster 770. I also have a 15 inch samsung tft on another PC at home. I've had no problems with staring at them for extended amounts of time. As for the iBook I have no idea, are you sure it's a TFT?

Well, for starters, are you going to playing games and/or playing movies on the PC? The good ol' CRTs have considerately better picture quality than TFTs.

How about you go to best buy and just look at their monitors? they're most likely all tft screens. It's probably just the refresh rate or the contrast ratio on the iBook that's making your experience not so enjoyable

I'm surprised at you asking that question Race Idiot. All laptops have had TFT screens for about five years now.

I find them to place a greater strain on my eyes than CRT monitors, yes. I'm not sure if it is the brightness as such though.

Thanks for your answers. I don't play games on my computer so eventual lag is unimportant. I'm interested in your excperiences, thanks Race Idiot and GG, since it is one thing looking at a screen in a store and another using it 4 hours in a row.

emad, the refresh rate is not adjustable and i turned the brightness down a lot, it got much better but not good enough for me. I haven't found an option to adjust the contrast.

It's a 12.1" tft with 1024*768, i'll try 800*600 instead now..

It's a Mac, I though it would have some crappy LCD screen. :D

As for it being more of a strain, it probably was initially, but I got used to it. Although anything below 75hz refresh rate tends to give me a headache. For some reason this pos 15 inch crt i'm using at the moment refuses to display anything barring 60hz so it's giving me a headache. I'm going to have to buy a new crt soon.
