GTMSA Presents

The Tour of GT4

Stage 4: Tahiti Maze

Special Conditions: 4 Lap Race

Deadline 11.59pm GMT Sunday 5th September

picture.php

Continuing with the coastal theme the peloton now finds itself faced with the first true rally stage of The Tour - Tahiti Maze. A winding part dirt part tarmac race is before us - a really
good chance for some bigger time gaps to appear. Best of luck!

Feel free to discuss sector times but please don't mention lap times or total race time.

General Information and Regulations

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by TGT4 sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ABud) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manner.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round.

  • Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
  • No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
  • Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
  • No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
  • All decisions by GTMSA officials are final
  • Curbs/rumble strips count as track

If a driver doesn't manage to submit a time for a particular stage a penalty time will be assigned, calculated as follows:

110% of the slowest time.

Eg. If the slowest time is 19'25.346 the penalty time for all non submitting racers will be:

21'00.365

Also if a driver joins the series part way through their GC time for the races missed will be calculated in the same way

It turns out i'm working away from home all week again - I get back on Sunday so I won't have much time to practice! I'll do my best to answer any questions people have (I've got my iphone with me) but may be a bit slower than usual to get round to it.

Cheers, and happy drifting :)

I fear a high rate of nonsubmission this week; the dirt surface is hard, and a lot of people find Tahiti Maze dull and repetitive (and they might have a point, even though each hairpin is significantly different). I've never been very good here, evidently because I haven't really refined my technique in the hairpins.

I do have a time already, and I'll probably stick with it, because it's entirely clean. There's definitely a lot of time on the track, even for me (not just for holl01, etc.), but I fear that I'll succumb to the temptation to submit a time with wall touches if I keep practicing. :dopey: My best splits in my saved race are 41.785 - 1'18.222 - 1'47.741.

I do hope you are wrong. But when reading through the race/license threads it does seem that most of the comments are negative when discussing the rally races. I've never been too good at them, mostly bronzes. And passing the races were tough. But after I beat them they became much more enjoyable. Because I got the monkey off my back.

I'm just going to enjoy these. :) And listen to the guys complain about the 10 sec penalties. :grumpy:

edit: Ran a couple of races. Best one had only a second difference between the 3rd & 4th lap. A lot of nice slides around this course. Pretended I was Austin343 on a normal track.

I'm running terribly here (46.198 -1:26.013 - 1:58.629), but it's a loooooot of fun. I'm not too worried about the horrid time, really; if nothing else, it means the non-submitters will have an even bigger time loss. ;)

It is that. I just sit back and enjoy the corners. No pressure. :)

Time submitted

Ooops! Submitted wrong race number ABud. Should be #56 not #18. Sorry.

I hope to complete a full lap without spinning or hitting an object sometime today. I have my doubts about four.

It is my understanding that very minor touches or rubs are occasionally allowed. This being a rally race. But the wallriding and any contact with the AI is not allowed.

I had no problems with the AI as he was ahead of me the whole time. I just let him take the lead, ate some dust then he was out of my way. I had a few very minor contacts (4?) the whole race. And nothing even close to activating the penalty system.

If I am incorrect in this please disallow my run.

All sounds good to me oldmodelt. Well I've just got back home so that gives me 3.5 hrs to practice and get a run done... Can't see this being my best round!

edit: Done though I'm not gonna tell anyone my splits, the battle for second is close!

Here's my race. My lines are pretty sloppy at times, but as I said, I chose to submit this for its cleanliness, not because it was any good. :dopey:

Nice driving 👍 I'm pleased to see that whilst I wasn't able to actually do it I had the right lines in mind:dopey:

I wouldn't be so sure that my lines are the right ones - compare, for instance, Mr P in the Audi Quattro, or, particularly, holl01 in license A-12. :scared: I once tried to replicate the latter's lines in that test, and I couldn't fathom how he did it; I would always slide outward, bog down, or hit the nose into the inside wall. My best time there is three-quarters of a second slower, in a 28-second test (!!).

But to be fair. At least one of them uses a wheel(holl01), I think and you use that, well we all have seen it. Quality DS2 controller that has seen many better days.

They actually both used a DS2 in those examples, and the state of my controller (which now has a piece of the case missing ) didn't affect my run like it did at La Sarthe. This really is a case of an enormous gulf between me and the elite GT4 drivers both in ability and in "GT4 IQ."

Speaking of holl01, he says that he plans to enter at least some of the remaining races in this series. We're going to have to brace ourselves, because we're all going to get blown away. :scared:

I wonder how many stages it would take him to overhaul the 3min gap between last and 2nd!? I'm looking forward to it if he does enter, should be some spectacular replays turning up (not that yours aren't too).

It 'aint going to happen. He might get the odd "Green Jersey" but that is it ;)

I concur with Viperin. There might be too much time to make up and too many good drivers in the competition. Heck, I might even start using MT :yuck: and concentrate on one series.
