Hey guys

Well after reading the posts on here for quite a while i finally decided to sign up so that i can try to contribute in anyway that i can. I guess you could call me a newbie to GT as ive just recently bought GT3 & GT4. I played it back on the PS1 and was much like you guys.......an addict. Then life just got in the way and i moved from the UK to the USA. The plan was to get a PS2 right away but life again got in the way. Its only now that life has calmed down a little (if you call losing my wife to liver disease calming down) that im starting to get into the GT thing again. Ive only got like 10% on GT3 and close to 20% on GT4, but that will rise pretty soon as its really great to be back playing it again. Since the PS1 days things really havnt changed much regards the gaming element in the games which didnt suprise me, as how can you beat perfection?. I remember how in awe i was when i first saw GT1 all those years ago. And i had the same feelings when i saw 3 and 4 in action. Anyway i just wanted to drop by and say hi, so hi guys and i look forward to playing GT again, as well as being a member of such a great resource for probably one if not the best games series of all time.

Well, hello and welcome to GTP! I'm deeply sorry about your loss, but we're glad to have you aboard. Enjoy your stay with us.

I am very sorry for your loss and I am glad everything seems to be working out for you now! I know you will enjoy the community that is GTPlanet. Everyone here is very helpful and nice, but most of all were all here to have some fun and enjoy the GT series that we have all grown to love.

peace,
eg6_dude 👍

Thanks for the welcome.

It truly is a game that will eat up some time and make me forget about life for a little while. Im torn as to what i should do, and wonder what you guys would do. Should i play and complete GT3 first and then concentrate on GT4?, or should i switch between both when i feel like it?.

Regards

Do you have a wheel?

If you don't, finish GT3 with the controller and then buy a wheel to play GT4.

If you do have a wheel, play GT4 and dabble in GT3 when the urge strikes you. GT3 is OK with a controller, but GT4 stinks on ice without a wheel and pedals.

Welcome, and as the others have said, sorry for your loss.

I prefer GT3 myself. The differences should be pretty obvious, so depending on which one feels better to you, or which one has the cars/tracks you want, you'll probably end up playing your favorite more often anyhow.

Actually, I've found quite the opposite to be the case. I can't stand the wheel in GT4 (though I can't remember whether it was in 900 degree mode or not), and found I was far better in GT3 (or, at the very least it seemed that way, as my lap times weren't actually any faster) with the wheel than without.

Well one thing's for certain, and that's that the DFP's/G25's 900 degree mode is useless in GT3. The game was programmed with center reduction and steering compensation, so you'll be doing a lot more work than necessary to keep your car on track.

Wolfe, is there ANYTHING you like about GT4 at all? lol...

But welcome Anglo, I'm sorry for your loss though...

GT3 is somewhat more realistic, as you can do donuts, and oversteer. GT4 on the other hand is full of understeer and wierd oversteer, it's like when you countersteer just a tiny bit too much, your car snaps back viscously, making you go into uncontrollable oversteer. You might want to read my GT4 Tips thread, and eg6_dude's FF guide. :)

Remember, however, that the main reason that I am useless at Enthusia is that I use these here:

So my definition of the wheel being better at something may be different from most others' these days.

Did I say anything against GT4 in this particular thread, apart from the fact that I prefer GT3 myself? lol...

You've said more than I have anyway:

Seeing as how AngloAmerican asked what we would do if given a fresh start in both GT3 and GT4 simultaneously, and not which one has better physics, I wasn't going to go there. Especially since he's already bought both games and most likely intends on enjoying both of them.

And for the record, I disagree with your notion that GT4's snap-back oversteer acts like maple syrup.

I'm just saying the 900 degree mode doesn't work. GT3 is fine in 200 degree mode.

I'm like you, in that I don't use my wheel with the PS2. The best way for me to actually use it is through the computer's ATI TV Wonder Pro (mounting the wheel to the desk), which degrades frame rate and picture quality in order to get a real-time image. I'd rather just play with the DS2, avoid the hassle of setting everything up, and enjoy 60fps on a larger screen (17" monitor vs 20-something" TV).

Do I have to bring up the GT4 video you made about the Shelby Mustang? :mischievous: JK, but I just would like to add that about the physics engine, as they are hard to get used to when you switch from GT3 to GT4, and vise versa.

No i dont use a wheel just the controller. Its taking me a while getting used to the damn analogue sticks.....lol. Is there anyway i can adjust the responsiveness of the sticks at all?, bcus i dont believe ive seen anywhere that will allow me to do that. It feels better to me using them as opposed to the buttons (im assuming its still the X AND Square) tho as im kinda heavy handed pressing them up or down lightly is a rare occurence. When you say GT4 stinks on ice are you on about the ice/snow tracks?. Or is the saying stinks on ice a new phrase that means GT4 sucks without a wheel?. Anyway thanks for the response and i may play GT3 first then really get into GT4.

Well, the analog sticks are second best. Keep practicing - you'll get there. I did GT3 100% and all gold with the sticks (eventually) and I'm not that fast.

By "stinks on ice" I don't mean it literally about the ice tracks. I just find that GT4 severely punishes overcontrolling, and I even after completing GT3 as above, I didn't enjoy driving in GT4 using the controller. So I invested in a wheel and built a little folding stand, and I've been happy since.

Welcome!
Sorry to hear of your loss.
GTP is a great community, and I'm sure you will find lots to keep you engaged to it.

Like some of he others above, I would highly recommend you get a steering wheel. I got myself a G25 a few months ago, and it's re-re-kindled my interest in the GT series. It adds another dimension to the gameplay experience.
