I just made a thread to talk about Thanksgiving this year in general. What are your plans? What are you eating? Where are you going? etc.

For me, Thanksgiving is not going to be great as usual, since there's not turkey, homemade stuffing and cranberry sauce. This year, we're going to my mom's second cousin's house, and her second cousins are those stereotypical New York Italians. Her house is in NYC, which would take three hours to get there (at least 1.5 hours traffic). The food is going roast beef, eggplant parmesan, pasta, broccoli raab, and a few other Italian staples. And I'm not really crazy about Italian food in general.

So what is your Thanksgiving going to be this year?

Quote from my wife from 5 years ago:
Thanksgiving is an American holiday devoted to showing how thankful we are by stuffing our faces with food.... Pilgrims, Indians all that jazz.

It's really about worshiping the turkey, by eating it along with mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, sweet buns and pie... lots of pie.

It's a holiday where American men sit around playing Gran Turismo while their wives slave away in the kitchen because "the husband" is too wimpy to fry the turkey outside in a blizzard.
Still accurate.

I think were might be too late for Canadian thanksgiving so for yanky thanksgiving I'll probably have a few beers with my colleagues since they're American.

I'll be giving thanks to beer as the founder of civilization and the inventor of the wheel.

So what is your Thanksgiving going to be this year?

Black Fridayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

*cues upbeat music*

No but seriously, if I had to give thanks to something, it's my parents, sister and her BF for all their continual support.

Doing the normal thing as every year for me going to Grand parents house and eating turkey and watching football.

But the next day i will be watching Black Friday Youtube videos :).

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Black Friday. No one in my family shops on Black Friday, because either they don't like all the crowds, or they hate good deals.

I've only went once it wasn't during the morning though later in the day, so it wasn't as crazy. Got an Ipod touch 4th gen when they were new.

I despise the way a cultural festival has been manipulated by corporate greed to manipulate the masses into consumerism.

That's what my mom always says. And I bet the CEO of Walmart would be happy if Black Friday started at 2:00 PM on Thanksgiving.

This thanksgiving I'm going out to my grandparents place. My mom bought a ham from Costco that's really good that she's gonna bring out there, and I'm gonna wake up at 2:30 a.m. on black friday to go shopping :D

As for me, I always alternate holidays around my aunts houses. The Fourth of July gets celebrated in one house, Thanksgiving in another, and the last one out gets Christmas. A couple of years running, an aunt gets my birthday party, but now I am pushing for next year's party to be celebrated at a comic book store of all places.

So here's my Turkey Day story:

My family went to my second cousins' duplex this year, which we never do. There were about thirty people in that cramped place. There was no formal meal, everyone just ate whenever they felt like it. Like I said before, there was no turkey, stuffing cornbread, or mashed potaters. We all stuffed our faces with overcooked honey glazed ham, canned cranberry sauce that shimmies like Jell-O, and bread that was almost stale. And nobody payed much attention to football. Also, three of my cousins showed up two hours late, since they were involved in a head-on car collision. And what car was he driving? A riced Mercedes SUV, with 24 inch black rims, a spoiler, and has an aftermarket front bumper. Evryone was OK though, he just has to pay $3,000 for repairs.
