The college standouts who want to go higher have put it among themselves to be the next great NFL stars. Mel Kiper Jr. made a big list of college stars who would likely become great stars in the NFL. Among them was Cedric Benson of the University of Texas, and the college standout Carnell "Cadillac" Williams of Auburn University. According to (http://espn.go.com/melkiper/), here are some other names Mel Kiper included that would be great draft picks in the upcoming NFL Draft:

Mike Williams (U of Southern California)
Ronnie Brown (Auburn)
Braylon Edwards (Michigan)
Alex Smith (Utah)
Aaron Rodgers (California - Berkley)
Derrick Johnson (Texas)
Adam Jones (West Virginia)
Antrel Rolle (Miami (Florida))

You can look at the website for more on which college footballers will likely be great draft picks. But this thread is all about the upcoming NFL Draft... next Saturday I believe. Reply on.

Well, the NFL Draft is this weekend. I'm going to run through what the most recent Sports Illustrated had on who will jump from college to the pros. Here are some of the First Round picks SI think will happen in the NFL Draft:

Braylon Edwards (WR, Michigan) = to Clevaland Browns
Carnell "Cadillac" Williams (RB, Auburn) = to Chicago Bears
Mike Williams (WR, U of Southern California) = to Minnesota Vikings
Cedric Benson (RB, Texas) = to Arizona Cardinals
Antrel Rolle (CB, Miami (Florida)) = to Washington Redskins
Alex Barron (T, Florida State) = to Houston Texans
Erasmus James (DE, Wisconsin) = to Cincinatti Bengals
Alex Smith (QB, Utah) = to San Francisco 49ers

Of course, these are Sports Illustrated's predictions mentioned in the April 25, 2005 edition of Sports Illustrated. This thread is open to football fans to talk about the ups and downs of the NFL Draft. Well, have fun!

How about this? Alex Smith turned out to be first overall, drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. Auburn has had a good number of gamebreakers being drafted into the Top 10. So, it's a good deal for Auburn, proving to be a power plant of great football talent. Among them is Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, donning the crimson and pewter of Tampa Bay.

No surprise bigger than the shocking draft pick with Day One coverage coming to an end- Ohio State's Maurice Clarett was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the Third Round. When many people were sleeping or getting ready to leave, most fans booed at Clarett for being drafted.

There's another day to go, so let's see what happens next day out. Comment if you wish, of course.

I really wasn't too excited about the draft this year. My team (Steelers) had a pretty lousy pick in the first round, so I didn't really watch it.

I see they picked a good TE for the first round, so I'm pretty pleased.

How about 3 of the first 5 picks being RBs.

Here locally, we have names like Chance Mock who recently attended mini camp for the Houston Texans. You may remember Mock who played QB for the Longhorns of Texas in Austin.

What was still a surprise was Maurice Clarett being drafted by a team. I know the Broncos selected Clarett, but it was insane since Clarett tried to jump from college to the NFL early. I think San Francisco needed all the help they can get after a dismal 2-14 end of last season. So they got Alex Smith from last season's ultimate Cinderella story, the Utah Utes.

I'll have to say that some good names went from college to the pros. I think "Cadillac" Williams was perhaps one of the most exciting players to watch, not just in the SEC, but in the entire nation. I believe Braylon was on the 1st Team for the most recent all-American team. Now let me ask all of you. Had the USC Trojans QB Matt Leinart enter the 2005 NFL Draft, who would have gone number 1, Matt Leinart, or Alex Smith?
