Brady Quinn. Jamarcus Russell(?). Ted Ginn Jr. Many of the finest college stars want to go to the NFL and win the Lombardi Trophy for their NFL teams. Some will make it. Some will make it to the Pro Bowl. And with great success, some may even end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. But to get there, it takes college. This isn't like Major League Baseball or anything in which you can go straight from high school to the pros. College builds you for the NFL. Not every college and university will have themselves football (East Tennessee State voted down football recently after once hosting football), so where you go depends. Some players could even be like Antonio Gates- not even a football player in college and still drafted to the NFL. Is it possible for an almost virtual unknown to be the next best star? Remember Ben Roethisberger from Miami University? Remember Brett Favre from Southern Mississippi? Even Tony Romo of Eastern Illinois made a name for himself with the Dallas Cowboys. There may be Colt Brennan out of Hawaii, Kevin Kolb out of Houston, or any number of guys out there that could light up the field on Sundays and Monday night. Who does your team need? Who will shine brightest? Who will be the best on offense, defense, and special teams? Who can break down Cover-3 and an all-out blitz? Who can protect the quarterback in a Shotgun set or in an Ace formation? Who'll stop the other offense in a Goal Line stand on 4th and Goal on the 1-yard line with time running out? Those questions haven't been answered yet... but they will be after NFL Draft weekend in New York on April 28 and 29.

The NFL Draft is forthcoming. You all read my college football reports for the 2006-2007 season. So who's going where this year? Comment at will.

Well, since I'm a Raiders fan, I'm looking forward to see who they pick. They will obviously pick a QB (since they haven't had a real one since Rich Gannon). Either Quinn or Russell will be good picks, but I have a feeling they'll go with Jamarcus. I hope he'll do as well as they say he will... I read somewhere that he has a very poor work ethic... one of those "I'm too good for practice" types (I sure hope this isn't true).

Are there any surprise names that could show up going in the First Round? If so, who? Also, who do you think could be overrated in this year's draft (and why)?

Oh heck, I don't know that much about the new crop... hopefully the Raiders' pick won't be the 'overrated' pick of the draft!

I hope the dolphins can score Quinn. I'm so happy we got rid of that waste named Daunte Culpepper. What a loser. I'm finally beginning to think that the Dolphins management is getting their act together after making some dismal decisions last season.

Wow, I hope the fins didn't shoot themselves in the face again. I thought Beck would be a good alternative to Quinn, but that was considering Quinn was already taken. I have no faith in Dolphin management as far as being predictable is concerned.

Who knows, though. Beck is still a great player. I hope he can carry our team to greatness.

Time for some random comments.

* JaMarcus R. is first overall for Oakland.

* Brady Quinn seemed highly overrated and dropped to a Cleveland Browns pick.

* Pittsburgh fans booed when Kevin Kolb of Houston was selected. But remember a guy named Ben Roethlisberger? Where was he from? Miami University. Didn't he win a Super Bowl? So you may never know. He might have what it takes to maybe win a Super Bowl someday. I probably would have liked if the Texans picked him up. Kolb played college ball for Houston, so why not the Houston Texans?

* Amobi Okoye is only 19 years old, and he's the newest member of the Houston Texans family. He's drafted out of Louisville. I appreciate that the Texans are looking for defensive support, but their Offensive Line needs the most attention.

That's all from me. How did your favorite team do?

Beck was a very good pick up for the second round, and I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be better than Brady Quinn. Choosing Ted Ginn Jr. in the top 10 though...worst pick of the draft. He's not going to make that big of a splash as a receiver, and he'll just end up becoming a poor man's Dante Hall.

As for my Steelers, they had another unspectacular draft. Lawrence Timmons should turn out to be a solid OLB, and hopefully he can fill Porter's big shoes. They used most of their picks on defense, and the only complaint that I have is that they failed to pick up a RB to compliment Willie Parker. I was really hoping that they would snag Michael Bush, he's a Steeler's type RB, and despite his broken leg last year, I think he's going to be a star in the NFL.

As of right now, I'm going to peg the Patriots as the team to beat. After picking up Randy Moss, they have (in my opinion anyway) the best QB and WR in the NFL together. I think now that Moss isn't on the god awful Raiders anymore, he will start playing as well as he did back in Minnesota. Add in their always solid defense, Lawrence Maroney, and I think we have a new team to beat in the AFC.

The Draft Weekend is over. Who did best? Who did absolutely terrible? Are there any busts? Could there be a player that wasn't as favored that may rise up and be the NFL's biggest star this season or next? Let's review the draft.

You know, you don't have to make a newscaster introduction for your posts. We've already been reviewing the draft; just add your opinions. :)

Well, my major is Communications, so I'll have to practice this in case I become a sports anchor or have any other field of study in broadcasting and journalism. Then too, I prefer to be semi-formal in my posts.

So any thoughts on this year's draft?

Cool. I'm interested in your personal opinion, though.

Woohoo, the Saints picked up Tyler Palko as an UFA. Maybe I'm just being a Pitt homer, but I think Palko will end up starting in the NFL one day. He reminds me a lot of Brees, actually. An undersized QB with incredible football smarts and intangibles who was overlooked at first. Enjoy him, New Orleans, you won't see many other 6'1 Quarterbacks plowing over college linebackers instead of running out of bounds. Palko is the real deal.

Well after a week to soak in evrything that happened at the draft right now it looks like the big winners in the draft were Carolina, SF, and Cleveland. The Jets, Minnesota,Indy and Atlanta also had good drafts. I think Houston , Tennesseand Philly had the worst drafts. I put Houston in there because altough I think Amobi Okoye will eventually the best DT in the league they did almost nothing to help out Matt Schaub. Tennesse did nothing to help Vince Young and taking a Rb who never starteed in high school or college boggles the mind. But I think Philly had the worst draft. At #26 they could have take Robert Meacham but they trade the pick to their DIVISION RIVAL Dallas. Dallas then take Anthony Spencer who will terrorize their quarterbacks for the next ten years. You don't trade with division rivals, I can't imagine the Red Sox and Yankees trading with each other. Then with the your pick in the draft you take Kevin Kolb (who is actually an okay QB) when he would have been there in the 3rd round when you need secondary and receiver helps just doesn't make sense. That said three years from now I could be proven wrong but we'll see.
