The AI must be using hybrid parts!

Check it out...in the GT national race (the B license one) the Renault Clio races along. I entered a Honda Prelude Si with about 193 hp, and the Clio is keeping up! How is this possible if it's only got like 108 hp or something? Either Gran Turismo is giving the Clio parts that they forgot to program into the game for us to buy, or it's got a hybrid motor!

80 hp it's not that gap. Check GT stars in Red Rock with a Trampio. 300 to 400 hp of difference and you don´t keep up, you win by considerable margin. All I say is, some races are challenging, look at it as they have an awesome car tuner

No but see, that doesn't make sense. You can say that in theory the Clio 16v might be able to keep up with the pack because the driver is good at choosing racing lines thru corners, but with 108 hp, the car would have poor off-the-mark acceleration, therefore, it should be behind the rest of the race...at least in the beginning.

Actually, the Ai cars in GT hardly ever drive a stock car, usually they have mds done to them so the Clio you raced probably was tuned up a bit.

Ah but see one can't BUY any engine mods for the Clio at the dealer, besides the computer, balancing, port/polish and aspiration! If the Clio had all this + racing aspiration, it would still only have 126 hp max, and there's no way it would be able to match the acceleration of my Prelude!

I had a pretty beefed up Clio (not the V6) in my garage 200 and odd Bhp, I'm sure you can upgrade everything you normally can on one.

Are you sure it was a Clio? In my game you can't modify it with turbo or NA tuning at all! Maybe in the NTSC version they forgot to give it parts.

Yeah I won the race. I was just making an observation about the Clio. Ah, but who cares? :)

There's something about...Clio! If you race the Compact Car Cup events (~246hp for the first two, ~295hp limit on the last one), the cars that enter are either "high-end" (read: expensive) Kei cars, or a few European hot-hatches that make about 70-130hp. The Lupo, Logo, Clio, Y, 106 Rallye, and a few others take turns being the fastest cars in that series.

So I think the AI does boost one car over another, because a 70hp Lupo shouldn't be beating a 116hp Clio. Also, the AI doens't always drive very cleanly in a lot of the races (cars miss hairpin braking points, slide wide, brake too early), so sometimes is quite possible to have one slower AI-controlled car beat a certain faster AI-controlled car.

Adding power to all the AI cars was an experiment of mine, and it proved that the AI had little or no problem with most 4WD cars when you added, say, 500hp to them, but many MR cars couldn't handle it (except the GT40s, oddly), and the FR cars took turns spinning or oversteering wildly. (I never bothered this with FF cars, they probably would be understeering quite a bit with such a power boost.)

and when they draft you or draft eachother, the cars catching the draft usually wipe out on the turn......
Yeah I've noticed that. Whenever they are right behind you in a turn, they always seem to wipe out. Furthermore I think GT3 is sometimes using hybrid parts. For example the PD cup on GT3, the Cobra R is always in 4th place and yet it is the fastest car in the whole series and you can't touch the engine due to the fact that under the race info. it says stock car only. Discuss....

It's not that the AI car's have hybrid parts added to them, it's the power multipler that will give them that bit more of an edge. It must be the way PD programed the game, I'm not sure if it happened in GT but the races did seem more equal.
