I'm definetily in love with some classic car from GT4.
This Alpine A310 is among my favourite, now that i'm struggling qualifying in the alpine event. Being italian i should love the italian way in car design: equilibrium in both form and technique, FR or MR car with neutral behaviour, slender shapes, armonious in everything. But no, im always more attracted by the unperfection of many " foreign" car from the past and present... the absurd gearshift from chaparrals, the absurdity of most musclecars , the " i wannakillyou" behaviour of most porsches,etc...

The french sportcar im gonna talk about its just like the Stuttgart creature in some ways: a compact smiling "cutie" car with a passion for killing. Killing his driver.
The infamous dauphine chassis with its RR layout its just what you need: short wheelbase and wrong weight distribution. Renauld provided the same chassis that is so infamous for its 4 door compact sedan(and used for a Alfa Romeo badged dauphine too) to the small Dieppe based tuner.
If the a110 its -styling talking- too baroque for my taste, the late 70's 310 is modern, with the plexiglass covered square lights and the europa-like tail; The light solution was quite common in those year (look at the wonderful zagato junior) for its aerodinamical advantage and,in the 310, the light distribution shows a nice reinterpretation of the old 110 4 round projectors layout; the tail, instead, couldnt be as low as in the porsche model since the german car has a awesome flat -boxer- unit while renault had 4cylinder inline (if im correct...),but the high tail its a good solution since it works aerodinamically.. this is all my conjectures, of course: since the 110 had a low tail i guess they where looking forward with the 310, with the option of bigger engine blocks in mind (that were used with the latter GTA models).

Back on the chassis ,anyway :D

The car layout its been well transposed in the game. The 310 is a sliding maniac in which you have to carefully think about everything you do,with factory spec at least... Every tap on the directions got to be well tought and the oversteering behavior of the 310 force you to both oversteer with care or let the car slide freely where needed.. also downshifting to correct an eccessive oversteer is something you have to think carefully about... the 120HP are enough to make the car change direction pretty quickly due to the short wheelbase. The result can be a variety of driving style that are always challenging to take through a whole race but always satisfying:you can go slower to go faster or drift your way to the victory, the 310 will always be there, tryin to kill you.
Thats why im still in Tokyo trying to make a decent qualify with normal tyres...

Well, too much stupidities, some picturest i took myself of both 110 and a latter 310. Hope you enjoyied and share your though about alpines car

Nice to hear your thoughts 👍 I'm a big fan of Alpine Renaults, including the later A610 which isn't featured in the game. The A110 is one of the most beautiful cars ever, in my opinion.

And I agree, in the game they're certainly tail-happy, I have a lot of respect for the drivers that managed to tame them on actual rallies :)

One of them is a great car in GT4 the other is a lemon to me. Only I don't have my game up I can't tell which is which without looking.

My experience is the Alpines are terrible on pavement. I couldn't get these things to handle worth a damn. A little too much steering input, and the rear swings like a grandfather clock's pendulum!. But they're great off-road! :dopey: And that's with minimal tuning! Even in the snow, they're so much better. The Mad Finns have put together an Alpine tune rather recently (which in the GT4 forum means within the last year, lol) I have yet to try it though..

i still prefer the 310 but i would never tune any of them... its hard to win on these 2 cars, but very rewarding once its done... managed to get 2nd at tokio in the alpine event after starting 3rd on the grid.. its very very tough:crazy:

Yea, and somehow the Ai manages to drive near-flawlessly if I remember correctly. But my memory kinda sucks and it's been awhile.

yeah, im in a 310 and the 2 computer driven 110 manages to be always 5 or more seconds faster during qualifies...they never mistake or oversteer..

Once you get a 110 you will know why. It is a much better car then the 310.

This. 110 is not only lighter, but more powerful of the two. It's also stiffer suspension wise, which is a good thing. And you really should try tuning them, they really come alive then. I've given a hard time to my 500-550bhp AWD's with a fully tuned Alpine A110, in both turbo- and NA forms, which means roughly half of the power of the opponents.
