Can it be really true that no thread exists for this yet?

A simple enough idea, share those really great film/TV opening moments that drew you into the world being portrayed.

Mine, definitely Intermission - mades me laugh out loud every time. Fair warning for some loud, bad language on this, so it's NSFW...well, it is set in Dublin, and it is Colin Farrell...

The Top Gun intro is the best by far.

No CGI, no trickery, just a real aircraft carrier performing normal operations with a film crew that was told to have at it. You couldn't ask for a better song to go with it either.

I think to date I refer more to the opening of Super Troopers then any other film. In my opinion it is the most epic intro to a movie.

Just going for a swim:

Okay, it's only a portion of the massive 21-min single-scene opening, but still, just incredible:

I'd put the opening to American Beauty here too, since it's my favourite film, but it's not quite AUP-kosher.

The first one that comes to my mind is Watchmen, the fight scene + the opening credits. In a few minutes it give the whole background about that universe.

This movie is R-Rated so I won't post any video here.

I see your Top Gun and raise you The Sky Crawlers - not real, but damn impressive animation all the same.

And go to 4:30 into The Battle of Britain for what I think is a great opening flight sequence - it certainly stayed with me all of these years.

I'll need to check into that one.

Absolute classic.

Actually, that's a bit of a subjective observation. I never really got on with that film if the truth be known.

Jack Reacher has one of the most intense and terrifying intro scenes I've ever seen. The way the score works, and the absolutely amazing sound editing, makes it stand out in my opinion. I can't really post a video of it, as the only video on YouTube doesn't have any sound and doesn't show the entire thing.

Jurassic Park deserves a mention too.

Maybe i'm biased but Mad Max Fury Road opening was really cool. Love how it starts with a sound of V8 starting up and the haunting Max's monologue, the sound of crows, and the radio chatter. All of these are done without any music whatsoever which made it better.

Seeing this at the cinema was really awesome. The moment the roar of the DBS kicked in, it was just priceless.
