if you have or know people with Metallica/Nirvana CD's, its alot easier to rip them yourself, espcially with CDDB:)

BTW, almost 2000 mp3's is about 6.5 gig, well at least for me:)

I have 72GB of mp3s. I dropped them all into one playlist to see how long it was once ... came to just over 2 months of continuos play with no repeats. The cool thing ... they were all made from CDs that my friends and I own.

So how long did it take to collect 72 gigs of hd space??? sounds like someone was always on the comp 24 7no matter what time of day....or did you just mass download them from youre friends comp

I recently converted a bunch of CDs to MP3 format. I think they take about 45 GB or so, and there's probably something like 10k tracks. It would've been more of a hassle but I hacked together a couple of scripts that convert and insert the tags. All I have to do is rip the music, rename the tracks and start the scripts whenever I want. I can process about 20 CDs per day, which results in about 1.5 GB.

Ever heard of the CDDB? If your ripping program is CDDB enabled, all you do is connect to the net, and it will get tags for you :)

i have precisely 877 mp3's on my D: drive (4 gigs). not to mention the coutless amounts of mp3#s i have on CD's everywhere.

the 200th mp3 (whilst playlist is in order) is dillinja - tudor rose. and what a classic song it is too :)

but i'm nto all up for mp3's as i used to. because of all the controversy with the MIAA, most of the mp3's i own are damaged, skipped, or otherwise not the perfect sound you would get from simply buying a CD.

so now i buy 2 CD's every fortnight. i find it better, because it gives me that feel-good feeling you can only get when buying a CD. what makes you feel good, buying a CD, or downloading the album overnight? personally, it's the CD that does it. but i feel i should buy another 150 CD rack, as my current 200 CD rack is full up, and i got 50-75 CD's just laying about my room :D
