Just you, the clock, and the Temple of Speed...
Monza. There are few race tracks that are recognizable even by non-race fans just by mentioning their name, and this is one of them. The Temple of Speed is an icon of motorsport.
With that said, this wasn't a very pleasurable experience for me.
I simply could not get a good lap. I tried as hard as I could, but every chicane was a nightmare. Almost guaranteed to get my laps invalidated. I would turn too early for Turn 2, hit the gravel on the exit of turn 5, even accelerating too early out of the Lesmos (especially Lesmo 2) could destroy my lap in an instant.
And then there's this corner:
The last part of the left-right-left complex that is Variante Ascari. This corner was the bane of my existence. All of the previous examples cannot compare to its wrath. I lost more laps here than all other corners
combined. It was that bad. I almost threw my controller through my TV every time the "lap invalidated" message came up here.
At some point, I stopped caring about getting a fast lap time and was just doing laps for the heck of it. I knew I was never going to get a good time, so at this point I was just entertaining myself and seeing how many laps I could get in before I couldn't take it anymore.
In the end, I did 53 laps - The distance of an Italian Grand Prix - with a best time of
1:47.603 on lap 29. This lap is complete trash and I'm sure someone will go five seconds faster than this, but I'm done.
