Tuning cars and the classic racing line vs the modern racing line, this would be your driving style right and one of the main things you would look at when tuning a car. I'm just going to talk about aerodynamics and transmission to being with. Yeah compared to some new to Grand Turismo on Play Station 3, I use to play Grand Turismo on the Play Station 2 all the time back in the day, hahaha .... right now I'm trying to figure out exactly what does what and what happens when you do x, y and z - whats the big picture? ...... yeah it's easier to download the GT 5 app for my Ipad, maybe I should but after reading about the classic racing line and the modern racing line it got me thinking about power and acceleration, all that jazz ..... :)

The Classic Racing Line.

''To carry maximum speed through a corner, you need to take the route that minimises the tightness of the corner arc. This minimises cornering force and frees up precious grip for maintaining speed. This route tends to use the geometric apex of the corner and is usually known as the classic racing line.''

It means circuits where there are many straights and high speed corners, multiple sections where you can maximize the highest top speed possible is key here. The ability to maintain a high top speed is far more important that the cars ability to take advantage of late braking and acceleration, think of tracks like Daytona Speed Way if you want an obvious example, Le Mans (Circuit de la Sarthe) or Monza.

Tuning your car maximize "the classic racing line''/tracks with lots of ''straights and high speed corners, multiple sections where you can maximize the highest top speed.''

Aerodynamics

Front Downforce Middle/Rear Downforce Middle.

This is a balanced approach that will give your car better top speed and a slight boost in cornering without much downside.

Transmission

Fully Customizable Transmission. It lets you customize all the gear ratios individually, thus meeting the need for any race. With the Fully Customizable Transmission you can alter the top speed slider in the tuning menu of your car. The further to the right you move the slider the faster your car will be but the slower it will accelerate.

Turbo

''High RPM Range Turbo Kit. Large increase in HP/Improves engine output at the High RPM range and as such does very poorly at lower RPM's. You will experience a nice amount of turbo lag if you find yourself spending alot of time in the lower RPM ranges. Use this turbo kit if that doesn't bother you or on High Speed courses with a small amount of corners and alot of max speed straightaways.''

The Modern Racing Line.

''Oddly enough, carrying the highest average speed round corners may not actually be the quickest way around a track. If the corner leads onto a straight it can be better to take a late apex, straighten the car out early and get the power on for a high speed exit. This is generally regarded as the best strategy for racing, with a slightly lower entry speed but a faster exit speed. The amount of grip available is the factor which determines how late you can brake and apex.''

Being able to accelerate faster and brake later are key to being able to maximize ''the modern racing line''. This means circuits where there is a lot of medium to low speed corners, lots of deceleration followed by acceleration and apart from the straight not many/if any sections where you can hit your highest top speed possible. Think of say technical street circuits like Monaco (Cote d'Azur).

Tuning your car maximize ''the modern racing line''/lots of ''medium to low speed corners, lots of deceleration followed by acceleration''

Aerodynamics

Front Downforce Low/Rear Downforce High.

This setup will make your car tend to oversteer thus helping you corner easier. Be careful though as this can also make it easier to spin out.

Transmission

Fully Customizable Transmission. It lets you customize all the gear ratios individually, thus meeting the need for any race. With the Fully Customizable Transmission you can alter the top speed slider in the tuning menu of your car. The more to the left the slider is the faster your car will accelerate but it will have a slower top speed.

Turbo.

''Low RPM Range Turbo Kit. Small increase in HP/Provides excellent engine response and very little to no turbo lag at low RPM's but does terrible at higher RPM ranges. Ideal for courses with little straightaways and alot of corners as the low end acceleration this provides will help you much more.''

''Mid RPM Range Turbo Kit. Medium increase in HP/Improves engine response at the Mid RPM's and gives a good jump to power. Due to these facts, this is the most balanced Turbo Kit and will most likely be the best fit for your car if it doesn't have an insane amount of HP.''

Engine

Engine Tuning.

Improves balance of the parts in the engine and makes the engine operate smoother, which increase power and acceleration.

Stage One. Gives a small/medium increase in BHP/Torque.
Stage Two. Gives a medium increase in BHP/Torque.
Stage Three. Gives a medium/high increase in BHP/Torque.

Weight reduction, Intake System and Exhaust

Everything you can possibly do to reduce weight, sports intake manifold/racing air filter and things to do with maximizing your engine's performance/increasing engine output i.e. titanium exhaust.

It helps with top speed and acceleration, right?

Suspension and Drivetrain i.e. torque sensing differential tuning.

What effects they have on the handling of your car, from what I gather it's all about oversteer vs understeer. If that is the case it then is down to personal preference or has it been proven oversteer is better for certain types of race tracks (long straight, high speed tracks?) because and I'm guessing, there are no sharp corners or sudden changes of direction - you need to be more ''smooth'' when cornering and precise as your taking corner at very high speeds. As for understeer, is it preferred on more technical circuits where there is lots of ''medium to low speed corners, deceleration followed by acceleration'' and sharp corners or sudden changes of direction? ... it would make sense as oversteer helps you corner easier and there are more tighter corners to take - at lower speeds, right?

Turbo Kits.

Low RPM Range Turbo Kit. Small increase in HP/Provides excellent engine response and very little to no turbo lag at low RPM's but does terrible at higher RPM ranges. Ideal for courses with little straightaways and alot of corners as the low end acceleration this provides will help you much more.

Mid RPM Range Turbo Kit. Medium increase in HP/Improves engine response at the Mid RPM's and gives a good jump to power. Due to these facts, this is the most balanced Turbo Kit and will most likely be the best fit for your car if it doesn't have an insane amount of HP.

High RPM Range Turbo Kit. Large increase in HP/Improves engine output at the High RPM range and as such does very poorly at lower RPM's. You will experience a nice amount of turbo lag if you find yourself spending alot of time in the lower RPM ranges. Use this turbo kit if that doesn't bother you or on High Speed courses with a small amount of corners and alot of max speed straightaways.

Supercharger. Forced induction device that uses the crankshaft instead of the exhaust to power the compressor. Improves engine power in the Low to Mid RPM range making this a good fit, if your car can support one.

Does this mean that turbo kits and supercharges don't assist with improving your acceleration and only assist with power/giving you a higher top speed? So just putting a high range turbo kit and a supercharger on everyone of your cars (if the can 'support' it..) might not be a wise idea? ..... a high range turbo kit is more suited to ''High Speed courses with a small amount of corners and alot of max speed straightaways'', a mid range turbo kit is more suited to ''.... your car if it doesn't have an insane amount of HP'' .. a low range turbo kit is better suited to your car if it already has lots of power and your tackling ''courses with little straightaways and alot of corners as the low end acceleration this provides will help you much more'' ..... is that about right?
