Concept Cup

Rules:

1.) This championship uses GT mode as an event creator only.

2.) Each driver should pick six cars, one from each of the six classes:

Capture-2.jpg

3.) Race Schedule:
Code:
[SIZE="2"]Family Cup (AI set to 5)

Suzuka Circuit
Tsukuba Circuit
Grand Valley Speedway
Trial Mountain
Infineon Sports Car Course
Hong Kong [/SIZE]

4.) Each of the selected cars will run one scheduled race. How you divide the six races amongst the six classes is up to you. The competition will be largely blind, no one knowing who is running which class, where.

5.) There are tuning restrictions that you must follow. Much like track selection, each of the tuning upgrades can only be applied once to the vehicle of your choice.
Code:
[SIZE="2"]1. Stock
2. Stock w/ any Tire upgrade
3. Any Exhaust, Turbo & Engine upgrade except nitrous
4. Any Drivetrain, Suspension, Brakes & Other upgrade
5. Unlimited, including nitrous and spoilers
6. LM Class – Run Stock

* Washing & Oiling may be done freely.
* Adjusting of available vehicle settings is permissible.[/SIZE]

6.) TCS & ASM are allowed.

7.) You should keep two wheels on the track all the time (rumble strips are part of the track) and avoid collision with AI cars and walls as much as possible.

8.) Points will be awarded based on number of competitors.

9.) Times used will be the two lap total time that shows when you return to the main screen for that track after a race.

10.) If the season ends in a tie, a combined lap time will determine the winner.

11.) Submit all times through personal message to thc118. When submitting, include the vehicle name along with its applicable Tuning upgrade number.

Competition to run during the remaining days of March.

Although I can barely find enough time to play GT4, I might try this one since conception of challenge is short and it's monthly based. I just need some clarification from the rules; can we apply (e.g.) tuning restriction #1 to some other class or we have to stick it with FF class ?

Restriction #1 can be applied to any class.
But once applied, it can't be used again.

I'm not entering, but I would like to point out that the Tommy Kaira ZZ2 isn't actually a concept car:sly:

The PAL version may be different, but in arcade mode the ZZII is classified as a concept. The entire LM class is classified as Racing, but have concept or prototype in their individual names.

C'mon and join the fun.

I've just restarted the game, another time:)

I'm guessing you're using NTSC-UC:sly:

I'll join in on this. I'm going to need to do some serious racing though, haven't played in a while and I'm probably rubbish now. Also, I don't think have any of the Supersports class cars at the moment. :ouch:

Thanks Thc118 , for clarifying that. I'm going to pick following vehicles:

FF Class - Mazda Mazda6
SUV Class - Toyota RSC
Supercar Class - Audi Lemans Quattro
Sports Class - Hyundai Clix
Supersports Class - Nissan GT-R Tokyo Show
LM Class - Mazda RX-8 LM

When you say GT mode is to only be used as an event creator, does that mean the races are done in Arcade mode? I'm a bit confused about that.

I don't get how this is going to work.
If only 1 class goes on a certain track then a GT-R would beat a Solstice easy and the Solstice drivers DN-X would destroy the GT-R drivers Mazda 6.
Same thing with the tuning.
Is it a combined time for all tracks?

Here's the way I look at it.

Yes, there's a good chance of losing when you race your FF car. But you've only got to race it once at one track. There's also a good chance to win with the LM and Supercar class. You'll get points for each race, but the results of those races will be unpredictable.

The 'concept' in the Concept cup is that it won't only take good racing, but also a bit of luck. Every race will be fair because, as a whole, the differences between them will cancel out. By introducing the tuning restrictions, slower classes can become competitive or fast classes, untouchable. It's all about risk and reward.

It just seems like some people that put all of there resources into the fast cars will win with the fast cars but lose with the slow ones.

That's the idea...

You consistently post fast laps in the Arcade Time Trials. There's a good chance you'll be able to beat my time again. The fastest laps won't necessarily win the entire competition here. As far as I can tell, this series could go to anyone who enters it.

Run the six races and see how it goes.

I still don't quite get it.
1. Let's say that my combined time is 20 min, is that going against others combined time?
2. Or is it just luck if you run an LM car at a track and nobody else does, giving you the win for that track?
Edit: I think that I get it now.

I like the concept of this cup (like the word play?) and I've done half my races so I might as well post my car selections.

Sports Class - Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z
SUV Class - Audi Pikes Peak Quattro
Supercar Class - Cadillac Cien
FF Class - Mazda Kusabi
Supersports Class - Acura HSC (Honda HSC in PAL land) (also the DN-X is called the Honda Dualnote for PAL users)
LM Class - GT-R LM

SUV class - Mazda MX Crossport

I was hoping that you hadn't chosen the Mazdaspeed 6. I classified it, assuming that it was basically another Mazda 6, but it actually has an FR drivetrain and fits into the Sports Class. Sorry if you've already raced it, but at least you've got another two Mazdas to choose from.

On a related note, I'll be racing these cars:

FF class - Pontiac Sunfire
SUV class - Chevy Silverado
Supercar class - VW Nardo
Sports class - Mazda RX-8 Type I
Supersports class - Suzuki GSX-R/4
LM class - Honda NSX-R LM Race Car

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I'll re-run the race with the Mazda6 or the Kusabi, I think I have one of them lying around somewhere. I might get my times in later than I thought, though. Probably won't be playing GT4 as much now that I have GT5. :dopey:

Ugh, I've lost my memory card that has my GT4 save on it, and I really don't want to start from scratch to get the cars I need. I've been pretty busy lately as well, so I haven't even been able to play on my PS2 much. If I can find my memory card before the deadline, I'll try to remember to get my times in. :dunce:

This was a fun little series. I was the lucky one this time, edging out the Cien by just 33 thousandths and taking down the other RX-8. Shotamagee gets bumped up to 2nd place with a fantastic combined lap time. Congratulations to all!! Anyone up for an additional running?

Very interesting challenge, thanks Thc118 for making this. Strategy plays very big role here which makes this competition unique in some way. Nice job Shotamagee for taking the second place. 👍

In my case, college schedule needs to be checked first. It would be fun to inject some K-car, hot hatch or rally classes too despite being concept challenge although either way is good :)
