The CSR-E: What's your dream rim?

There's been a lot of talk about upcoming upgrades for the Elite but, having looked for a specific post on opinions as to what people would like to see from any future rim/s, I couldn't find one... so I thought I'd start a dedicated post.

So what do people most wanna see!?

Thomas has already divulged, in a refreshingly candid manner, that the CSR-E rim is possibly not quite up to the standard of the base, but that is was combined with the base to keep the price point down for all the console users out there, whilst still delivering awesome FFB potential to the mid-range market.

So, for me, this is the itch that needs scratching most - what do people want in a standard generic driving wheel to bring the rim up to the level of the base?

Bear in mind, F1 lovers, that Thomas has, pretty much, revealed elsewhere that a Formula wheel is definitely on the way for the Elite...

Personally, I'd like to see a GT wheel like the BMW one planned for the CSW. A completely spherical 350mm(or close) metal rim with full alcantara, industrial metal centre 'plate', Momo Corse-style thumb bulges, Fanatec 'F' centre-branding and CSW paddle shifters.

If it was down to me, I wouldn't make any compromises to the wheel to accommodate gamer-like 'A', 'B', 'X', 'Y' or PS3 'shape' buttons in their conventional layout or in positions that affect regular driving. Those serious enough to be buying wheel upgrades for a CSR-E are doubtlessly gonna buy the CS handbrake in the future, and if people need more buttons close to hand for F1, the Formula rim should have that covered.

Sure, in the short term, I wouldn't say no to a handbrake button positioned where the right dial currently is on the GT wheel, and maybe a rear view one below it, with the 5-way joystick on the opposite side where the other dial is currently. Other than that, I'd keep it clean and probably lose the bright 'Lego' colouring from the buttons, turning them grey, to make it feel a little more premium.

So those are my thoughts, what are everyone else's?

Share your thoughts, ideas and sketches, but save the criticism and trolling for somewhere else. Let's make this a positive thread to help the guys at Fanatec gauge public opinion on future products, as opposed to a forum for those wishing to dwell on the past or simply bash a competitor's products.

Oh, and Thomas, if you've already finalised the rim designs and are halfway through the manufacturing process, let us know and everyone can stop wasting their time! :)

Over to you lot,

I would really like a full sized round solid rim. Full leather or alcantara wrapped rim is a must. The button placement or color is not as critical as the construction of the rim itself. Something that feels like you are holding a real racing wheel and not a toy.

^^^ @mayman, same here, if budget allows. I'd say BMW rim would probably be a priority over Formula, but I want 'em both in all honestly!

I'd want a hub with a breakout box with the XBOX buttons giving us the ability to put any wheel we want... whether it's a Momo, Personal, Nardi, etc.

I am happy with the current rim and would need a significant increase in functionality for me to purchase a new rim.

I have agreed on that RSR rim with you somewhere else, and Im agreeing with you here. Perfect fir me. Old school elegance couled with modern day tech. A classy steampunk kind of look.

I love the Formula wheel they have shown for the CSW, if I could get some kind of verification that the Formula wheel will be available for the CSR-E and still fully functional with the rotary encoders and all the buttons in the video, I would buy a CSR-E right now instead of waiting for the CSW. But they are being cryptic and tight lipped about what (if any) limitations there will be related to buttons/switches/encoders on the CSR-E vs the CSW. Yes I've seen the chart on their website, but as someone else brought up, the button limit on the CSR-E could be just related to how many buttons they currently have on the stock wheel, or that could be the actual limit due to the Xbox certification.

Check this thread out... kind of amusing. To give you the history if you don't feel like reading a guy name Fact0ry Pil0t was calling Fanatec crap and bashing hard. Then Thomas called him out, the guy doubted he was from Fanatec... the rest is in that thread. Thomas floored him with his reply. I have to stay tuned to that thread to see what that guy says. It's not necessarily new to some of you (i see some names from here there).

^Well I did see a funny little fail of someone accusing Amf of using the word "choose" wrong, even though he said it right.

I would be happy with just a GT Rim. Maybe model it after a Sparco or MOMO, instead of a certain manufacturer, although it would be nice to have a BMW rim! :D If any of you know me well enough, you'll know I'm a huge road car fan! I need a GT rim!

Well that was pretty painless.

Yup, myself, Porsche 9146, gslooney, Caz and Crispy will all take an RSR-Elite rim please, Thomas.

Take the money straight out of our accounts and make sure to post them by the end of the week (we'll pay the extra €40 shipping).

Many thanks!

I hope if they are going to do something like built-in shift lights that they at least make it an optional extra. I've already got an SLI-Pro that is fully capable of blinding me at the highest brightness setting, last thing I need is more shift lights on the wheel.

I'd just like a formula style rim that has fully working buttons. It can be just 14 buttons. CSR Elite doesn't have the tech for a rev limiter though right? I'd be happy take one even w/o that rev limiter though :dopey:

what he said.

The thing I like about this look (apart from the sexy brown leather) is the fact that it looks like a standard Momo Volante Montecarlo, but yet has additional buttons behind the wheel as opposed to them all being integrated on it.

This just leads to more genuine feel, somehow...

This obviously all depends on weight and size of rim limitations for the motor & proper FFB effects of course.

Something fully round, NO 10-2 hand positions, between 320-350mm. Full Alcantara or suedey rim. I am not the biggest fan of regular leather, too tacky, just my opinion. I like to let the wheel slide in my hands a little in the turns. I find it easier with alcantara. I could with a finer leather.
