I did a search but I didn´t found a thread about DTM! :odd: I´m sure there are some fans of the series in GTP..

So I did this thread so GTPlanet has a place where you can discuss about the DTM series. As you all know, DTM stands for Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. More info in the website .

The 5th round of the series was driven on Norisring last Sunday. Gary Paffet won that round. What do you think about the race? In my opinion, it wasn´t very interesting, but that´s just me..

Does anyone know what happened to Frenzen? I just saw him coming to the turn sideways and then he crashed. Also bad for Alesi, all his wheels locked when coming to the last corner and he just slided into the tyres. But then he just backed the car up and continued the race. He finished 8th I think.

Ok again, some of my toughts about the race at Norisring and something else.
Post in this thread your thoughts about DTM and such.

Laters

when i was a kid i used to love the dtm. my dad took me to the nürburgring races for a few years. when i was 13 i started sk8boarding and lost all interest in it until around '94 when they had the 155 alfa´s.
i was really into the dtm/itc thing in the mid 90´s, that was a really intersting format cause it made the series more international. i loved the street course race in helsinki cause it was in the area i was working in at that time, we could watch the race from the roof of our office building :).

i don´t often get to see the races of the current dtm era since they almost always run at the same time as the motoGP races which i prefer to watch nowadays. i like this years cars though, they are pretty impressive machinery.

here are my favourite dtm cars from the past:

I watched DTM last night. Was pretty intresting to watch it beacuse I never seen DTM before.
And , Toler ...that Alfa looks so sweet

RSC, that's because you stole you STOLE my idea, you dope! (j/k) I was going to TALK about DTM, so here goes.

DTM has changed as of late. The Audi TT-R is gone, and most of the cars now are four-door cars complete with more lights. If any DTM racers took their rides to the Nurburgring Nords, I wonder how they fared.

@ JohnBM

in fact this years cars are mostly the same as they were last year. the manufacturers simply agreed to use the sedan style bodyworks for advertisement reason. so the tt-r isn´t really gone, it´s just a A4 now.
as for taking dtm cars to the nordschleife, it´s working fine (with slight modifications). last years race was actually won by the dtm opel astra. this year the audi tt-r took 4th place.

I'm hoping there will be some cool and different looking car pic here because I don't get to see much of these kind of races.

I´m pretty new to the series, that´s because this is the first time we get that series here. But I´m already a "fan" of the series.

And as toler said, the sedan style bodyworks are just for advertisement. Ie. Audi A4´s ads in Finland have the DTM-racer next to the stock model. Personally, the sedan style bodywork doesn´t bother me, but I have to admit, the TT-R is just beautiful.

At the moment, Mercedes seem to lead the series. I like the Audi more, so that´s pretty sad :D But Audi Sport Team Abt can still catch up.

And at last, my favourite team:

I liked DTM when it was 190E's (and early C-classes) V 328is V 155 V Calibras. Now it is boring, with too many Merc's. For a while - and i am talking 2 or 3 years ago - it was like the WSBK is now. Basically a one make supercup. 👎

That American commentator - I forget his name - sucks like boiled brussel sprouts.

It needs more then 3 manufacturers. Some Alfas, a Beemer or two, or some Jags would liven it up a bit.

Yep it would be so much more intresting if they had more manufacters. I´d like the BMW but it is in ETCC at the moment with Alfa so I don´t think they´ll come to another touring car series. But it would be great for the sport if they would join. Let´s hope this is happening sometime.

I have only seen 2 DTM races, they looked really good! They are fun to drive on V8 supercars 2 aswell!

Audi won the DTM championship 2 years ago, so its not like Mercedes has always dominated.

Mercedes just has more drivers because they have more privateers. The 6 Audis are all factory efforts, and I believe all of the Opels are too, but a lot of the Mercedes teams are not run by AMG.

Mmkay..

It´s been a while. I didn´t see the Nürburgring race ' cause I wasn´t in town that weekend but I know that Paffet won and Ekström finished second.

Next up is race at Oschersleben in sixteen hours. I hope Ekström does good and there´s lots of overtaking tomorrow.

And btw, this thread is pretty dead, but it would be nice if you dtm fans there would talk about results etc..

Cheers.

Well that was a good race..

Tom Kristensen was first, it was ´his first victory in DTM, Martin Tomzyc second and Manuel Reuter third with an Opel!!

Manuel Reuter did extremely good, best place with an Opel this season. He also overtook Paffet nicely...

Great race imo..

Let's bring this thread back alive. So, the season 2005 is well started. 3 races done and british Gary Paffett with the AMG-Mercedes leading with 19 points. Finnish Mika Hakkinen on second also with an AMG-Mercedes with 17 points together with an old Formula1 rival Jean Alesi with the MErcedes and last seasons champion, swedish Mattias Ekström with the Audi.
If I had to go guessing who's gonna win this season's championship, I'd have to say that Hakkinen will take the victory. He was so superior on Spa. He even got away from last years champ Ekström, even when he had the 20 kilo extra weight in his car.Gotta give him a little credit.
So what do you think? About this season and about the series in general?

DTM is great, altho i think that they need more manufacturers. its turning into the BTCC, starts with TONS, ends with a few. the BTCC was dominated by the astra's, and it was basically 4 manufacturers :(

but i loved the 155 DTM car, teh pwnz :)

and this season has been pretty good, altho ive only caught one race and 1 qualification so far (race at euro speedway and qual/superpole at sparc or wherever it is, where the merc took its rear end off before superpole)

DTM really does need more manufacturers. Makes like Alfa Romeo and BMW would really be great in DTM. The time when they still had Alfa's was awesome. I have like five races of DTM from the 90's on video. They are way better races than the current ones.
The last race at Brno though was kinda good. Ekström won, Kristensen second and Frenzen third. The race might have been even better if Häkkinen wouldn't have lost his tyre on the third lap. (Yeah it stayed on but it exploded, kinda hard to drive fast with an empty tyre). The finish line battle between Ekström and Kristensen was so great. The final gap between the two was less than 0,3 seconds.

So, race five of the DTM series was last weekend in Oschersleben. Great race, once again. First the qualifyings were a disaster for us Finns. Hakkinen got the last place! The top3 were Tom Kristensen with the Audi. Second place went to Martin Tomczyk with his Audi (someone might say that's a little bit of a surprise). Third place went to Gary Paffett with the Mercedes-Benz.
The start of the race was very bad, if you ask Kristensen. He had a terrible start and he almost shut down his Audi's engine. He fell way back and entered the first corner being 19th, leaving only Häkkinen behind.
Someone might have said that Häkkinen was going to come back cause of his different type of strategy, but during his pit stop the mechanic couldn't get the tyre on and as Häkkinen accelerated away from the pit, the rear tyre fell off and Häkkinen lost damn lot of time. Maybe that did some harm to the car or then it was just a driving error, but Häkkinen drove out of the course on lap ten and retired from the race.
The results of the race were: 1. Gary Paffett, 2. Mattias Ekström, 3. Jamie Green
Next race will be driven 17.7. in Norisring.
