Prompted by the other thread by LamboLP640, who noticed that the 370z was using the wrong type of engine, here's a look under the bonnet of all of the other cars in Shift. I know a few of these but I wouldn't say I know all of them by sight, so if you spot something you think is wrong say so and we'll see how much effort they put into fixing it :)

(lots of z-fighting on this one, possibly the reason it is wrong is because there is a right version under there trying to get out?)

Nothing! Can't expose the mid-engine...

Firefox is getting a little on the flakey side so I might just do a few per post like this if that's ok with everyone :)

All done, I think. Hopefully one day they will fill out the 599, FXX, Superamerica, California, F50GT, F430, and F430GT folders :)

Hehe, nice one! 👍

You can actually modify such data on the PC version? Boys and their toys ;)

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how quickly people got up to speed, there were people driving brand new car models around in the game within about a month of it coming out. Almost all of the car performance data is mostly the same format as in the GMotor2 engine games like RFactor and GTR2. There are still some gaps in what people can do - nobody seems to know exactly what has changed with the tyre model yet, nobody can make menus, nobody can make new materials, nobody can make new track or car slots. But enough is the same that you can hit the ground running if you have looked at a racing game on the PC in the last 5 years.

Ok, so the Mustang engines...

The 2010 GT500 shows the correct engine. The 5.4L Modular (V8, DOHC, 32v) with Eaton M122 supercharger.

However, the Falken and Terlingua show the same engine, but actually each have different engines in real life.

The 2010 Falken GT is supposed to have a 4.6L Modular (V8, DOHC, 32v) with a Whipple supercharger.

The Terlingua is supposed to show a 4.0L Cologne (V6, SOHC, 12v) with a Paxton centrifugal supercharger.

Just an FYI, if anyone was curious.

I thought the Camaro in the game was the 2010 instead of the concept since it was in production. If that's the case, the Camaro is wrong too, because the concept came with the LS2 from the Corvette, the 2010 came with the LS3 thats in the newer base Corvettes.

Thanks for the info Shadow Wulf, from what I heard the SMS team can be hard to get an email response out of but I'll see what they thought those were meant to be if I can.

Some cars that show a different name in the game to the folder that all of their files are in. The Camaro is in a folder called camaro_concept but the car you buy in the garage says Chevrolet Camaro SS, the Corolla is in a folder called toyota_corolla but the garage says Toyota Corolla GTS (AE86), there are a few others like that.

I'm just going to go through and change the names on the cars to the garage names because in most cases the folder names are less specific or more.. wrong.

the BMW M3 GT2's engine bay looks weird to me. hard to see the engine

Yeah I was wondering about that one.

I found this on GIS though which although it's not a great angle makes me wonder how close that actually is:
