The Exorcist meets A few good men, is the simplist way to sum up this film. Tom Wilkinson (Rush Hour) plays the priest accused of murder after an exorcism dosent go (completely) according to plan & in the long run results in Emily Rose's death. Laura Linney plays the lawyer defending him.
DO NOT beleive the trailers about this film. Even i thought it looked quite scary from the trailer & it really isnt. It is almost more a drama. Aparently some of the bits are scary (to my mum anyway), but all the proper "scary" bits have already somewhat been seen in the trailer & therefore zero effect when seeing the actual film. The only quite creepy bit (for me anyway) was the actual exorcism itself, which was done very well & IMO much better than "The Exorcist" (but thats because i hate the exorcist, its crap i think).
The lead actors are good. Tom isn't really anything special but does his job well enough. But its Laura Linney who (as always) is the best actor in this. The girl who plays Emily Rose is clearly a good actress, but all we ever see her do is scream and pull funny faces/positions (because of her possesion). Plus i know its bassed on true events, but it takes itself a tad to seriously.
If you can ignore the trailer & the fact its build as a really scary film when it isn't & just enjoy it for the almost popcorn film it is, its good enough.
