Instead of bickering about opinions, why don't you guys actually just explain why you should watch the series in a certain order?

Ahem

In all seriousness, a lot of the things in End wouldn't make a great deal of sense without watching Episode 26 first, but make complete sense if you do. Plus, the difference in animation quality would just make the TV ending look terrible after watching End, rather than making End look amazing after watching TV.

I've always seen it as being that the end of TV shows you what happens, but EoE shows you how it happens.

EoE explains how instrumentality happens, but it does very little to explain what happens within instrumentality, while EoTV does explain what happens in instrumentality, but not how it happens. If you watch both you get the whole picture.

Also, in reference to my statements about EoE being incomprehensible without watching EoTV first, I had a friend who watched the series "EoE first" and found EoE utterly incomprehensible, but when they rewatched EoE after watching EoTV they understood what happened in it as well as anyone else could.

Hei
The original end is crappy. Which is why they redid it.
No, they only re-did it because of the backlash it caused.

Also interesting tidbit, Anno himself has defended the original ending.
Creator/Writer/Director Hideaki Anno has claimed that, in his opinion, the movies were not a necessary conclusion to his work, and that the television ending, told in abstract animation entirely in the character's minds, was all the ending that was needed.

(Great article BTW. Goes on why NGE is such an influential, and popular series.)

Could someone explain all the hate for the TV ending? Sure, the psychology was awful, but they were generally fairly well written, and, despite the fact that the animation was done on a really tight budget, they did actually make it look pretty nice artistically. (Not knowing of the budget issues at the time I first watched it, I interpreted much of it as being stylistic rather than cheap, although the bit at the end of the high school section where it suddenly jumps to felt tip did make me cringe.)

Also, as I have noted before, the TV ending is hilarious to watch, whereas (most of, I'll make an exception for "Komm, süßer Tod) End of Evangelion wasn't.

The thing is, that Evangelion is not a comedy. It is a psychological drama.

Evangelion is like The Smiths. Many people take it entirely seriously, but underneath there is a darkly humourous, intentionally melodramatic side to it.

I struggle to believe that many scenes in Evangelion weren't supposed to be funny. The elevator scene for example, or HALLELUJAH. Maybe I'm not reading the series the way it's supposed to be read, but I think there are enough scenes that are obviously supposed to be funny (the entirety of episode 9, the high school sequence in episode 26 etc.) that I struggle to believe that there was no humourous intent underlying much, if not all of it. TV Episode 25 has next to nothing funny about it, but is still effective as a piece of psychological drama.

Reading this may assist you in understanding what I'm talking about.

There is always comedy relief in most anime series. Though in Eva, it is few and far in between. If you honestly think what you do, then no comment.

The show up to episode 24, then you WILL NOT watch eps 25 and 26, and will substitute them with the End of Evangelion movie. You can then and only then watch the lame eps. 25 and 26, and then start with the new movies.

Fact.

Unless this is the way to watch Evagelion, then thank you. To the others, you just can't make up your mind?

BTW does someone understand what happened in Evangelion 3.0?

Also:

How on earth are they getting 4.0 produced, Eva 3 is beyond my comprehension of the Eva series, and I swear god 4.0 could be just another completely unrelated anime to the NGE universe.

I was actually about to make a huge ramble about what happened in 3.0, but whatever headcanon or actual canon is broken now, I sort of know what happens, and I sort of have an idea where they are coming from BUT it doesn't make any kind of ****ing sense now, specially when the Impacts were conceived as mayor species killings events or something, is hard to actually assimilate that as some sort of "events that's just happen" now, and whatever the hell that plot twist was at the end, no idea what to make up from the series.

Good thing I don't take it that seriously, the visual style and the battles were nice ... at least.

Oh, I know. You're fine, Hei. To (hopefully) change the subject, without any spoilers, would you guys recommend watching .hack//Quantum?
Yes, quite the short OVA series, but very good. It does a good job with the very limited time it had.

I'm just wondering how Gendo and Fuyutsuki survived in NERV HQ on their own for 14 years. Maybe they had Rei clones as chefs, janitors, Bridge Bunnies etc.

I swear god 4.0 could be just another completely unrelated anime to the NGE universe.

From 2.0, the thing has basically nothing to do with the original show with the exception of the characters names and designs, so just sit back and enjoy the impacts.

I cant remember which .Hack i saw besides Sign part of it took place IRL outside the game but i dont know which...and i cant find it on MAL.
It wasn't Quantum but that one looks like a good watch.

No, you sure can't. Once I started, it's tough to stop. Also, again not spoiling anything, what do you guys think of A Certain Scientific Railgun? I'm been wanting to check it out, and if any one of you saw it, what did you think of it?

It's like.. 86% filler (stalling is more accurate in this case), 94% concentrate moe, and roughly 14% action.

If you've gotten into the (Certain Magical) Index series, it won't hurt to get into Raligun. But if you haven't time to kill, look for other series to watch.

So, it's like the Season 3 finally of MLP FiM. 86% musical filler, 94% unicorn and 14% Alicorn.

So it's not worth it, in your opinion? I never watched the series yet, so I thought it would be interesting to get into, but I guess not. Oh well, back to Nichijou!

Mind you, I'm notorious for my incredibly complex taste but I tend not to give people the inflated impression of how brilliant a show is if it (in all) honesty isn't.

Show's a 5 to 6 out of 10 for me. Maybe that should help you make a better judgement for yourself.
