I stopped Hanasaku Iroha at episode 5. I need to catch up.

Watching The Mystic Archives of Dantalian on niconico. Can't find sub downloads :/

I've just been told I can substitute the whole Evangelion series with the movies, is this true? I know, I can't believe I haven't watched it yet either.

The series contains a lot of info you need to understand the movies. The series is very good anyway so I don't know why you wouldn't watch it. Besides the movies aren't even finished yet.

Watch the show. NOW!

EDIT: The movies are called Rebuild of Evangelion, meaning there have been a few changes made. A lot of information from the show is left out though because it is a lot to try and include it all into just 4 movies (hell they didn't even include it all in 26 episodes ). I guess they expect most people who are going to watch the new Rebuild movies will have already seen the series.

As far as Eva movies go, there's a few of 'em.

Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22, the first two films in the 4-film Rebuild of Evangelion series, are what I assume we're talking about here, since they're the only thing that you could substitute the series with. However, you'll miss out on a lot of the subtleties that make these movies great if you haven't seen the show. That, and you'd be waiting a while for the last two films to conclude the story. So I recommend watching the TV show first. 👍

There's also End of Evangelion, which is an alternate telling of the events in the last two episodes of the TV series. It's a must-see, but obviously only after you've seen the TV series... or at least the first 24 episodes. :P

Then there's Death and Rebirth, which is garbage. It's basically a summary of the events of the TV show, coupled with the first part of End of Evangelion. This will most certainly not make sense without having seen the show, and I wouldn't recommend bothering with it even if you had seen the show.

Really? I was told from someone who is usually very reliable that I could.

I know the 3.0 movie isn't out yet, and I don't even know if that will be the last one or not. But I was told that 1.0 and 2.0 pretty much cover the series, and are a lot better paced. Is this bull****? Should I cancel my orders on the movies?

edit; never mind, thanks guys.

You certainly could just watch the movies, but then you'd miss out on a lot of the subtleties that make the movies great. So I'd recommend watching the series first. That, and they aren't done with the movies, so you'd be left hanging for a while until you could finish the story. 👍

I disagree. I don't think you can get by just watching the movies. You'd have no idea about some characters like Kaji or Ritsuko or the background story on quite a few of the characters or Nerv itself. Just watching the movies would make it all feel very incomplete.

Gooood Afternoon everyone! How is it going? :)

Just checked the last pages... those R+V avatars are awesome!

Howdy!

The first movie is basically the first 6 or so episodes of the show with some stuff from a few other episodes thrown in. You can substitute the first part of the show with the first movie. However the 2nd movie branches from the show completely and doesn't offer a whole lot of explanation. Trust me. I'm a long time fan and just rewatched the entire series, EOE, and the two Rebuild movies.

I do suggest watching Rebuild as they are great but you'll be scratching your head a lot when they are over.

Yeah, I've decided to watch the series too. I'll get round to downloading and power watch it over the next couple of weeks before I start the movies. Going ahead with my purchases though as the bluray's looks pretty damn awesome, and I think you get some kind of art cards with 2.22.

That stuff isn't really all that relevant to the events in the first two films. Sure, there's that feeling that they're not giving you the whole picture with Nerv and some of the characters such as Kaji just yet, but the same could be said for the show. You don't get a lot of that information until later. And there's still two more films left...

I'd recommend watching the original TV series, then End of Evangelion, then watch the first 2 movies. IN BLU-RAY.

I have the movies in Blu-ray. It's magical.

QFT. Hatcha, you're definitely gonna need to watch End of Evangelion after the TV series. Or in lieu of episodes 25 and 26. Just be sure to watch it before you delve into the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. 👍

This post is perfect.

Congrats, Sephy! You are now a part of the A.O.S. Brigade!

Please, help yourself. :)

edjit: Okay, ya bunch of rascals! Do you like either one of these? (there's 2)

What do you like? What don't you like? What would improve it?

Or would you rather I stick with the current (as a result be restricted to very specific images)?

^ type 2 over the polaroid, but I'd say keep brainstorming... I see where you're going, images that need their backgrounds for context, or which aren't easily extracted from their backgrounds. How about overlay text in a contrasting shade (ie light on dark and dark on light?)

Without 2nd thought, Snapshot photo is now no longer being worked on.

Jeff, it's not so much background, it's more like body parts and long hair being cropped off in images. Once we see cropped parts we can see the border of the image. Take what we have right now, the only border we can identify is the bottom. If we had an arm cropped off on the left and a bunch of hair cut off on the right, we'd see 3 of the 4 borders which easily identifies the entire border of the image ultimately defeating the purpose of this style of transparent backdrops.

See if I went back to bordered pictures, not only will I be free from above restriction when selecting images, but I can produce more avatars a lot quicker (saving lots of time and effort for me)...and quite frankly I sometimes don't feel it was worth my time to cut out the bg for every single avatar when 70% of them aren't used (not blaming you guys), just saying...

btw, I'd take that claymore one but I don't want gray font :P

I have a 3rd idea but that actually requires me to draw, but I'd really rather not pursue this route since I won't have time when school comes around.

Now that I'm done with my brief Harry Potter stint, I'm back to work on compiling my list of anime to watch ASAP. I'm doing it in alphabetical order... just got finished with D. Here's what's been added:

Banner of the Stars
Bokurano
Boogiepop Phantom
Bakuman
Capeta
Cencoroll
Chocotto Sister
Deadman Wonderland
Demon King Daimao
Dennou Coil
Durarara!!

I have a 3rd idea but that actually requires me to draw, but I'd really rather not pursue this route since I won't have time when school comes around.

Yeah I'd imagine that'd be pretty time consuming.

@AOS- I would also prefer the second type, if we had to choose one, but I love the current ones.

@Yaywalter, At the bottom of your list, what's this Durarara!!? I've heard of it before, and the name makes it sounds interesting to me.

@AOS- again, A.O.S. Brigade: 4 members? Who. :P

@Sephy's OADA, :drool:

Speaking of Initial D, I'm 2 episodes away from the finish line... FINALLY... getting on Steins;Gate after this... perhaps I should have picked up Chaos;Head as well.

I could name the current AOS Brigade members, but I'd feel like an attention seeking idiot (as if I'm not already) if I kept posting a new list each time I enroll a new member... :P

In any case, How are we coming along with TTGL, everyone???? I'm on episode 4.

Hey, welcome to the thread danjee! Initial D is a great entry point into the world of anime for GTPers... Pokemon however leads me to believe, no offense, that you are perhaps somewhat young? Nothing wrong with that, just curious so recommendations about what else you may be interested in are appropriate.

@yaywalter, Durarara I'd say is kind of weak, compared with Baccano! anyways. Banner of the Stars is old school, classic, and great! You'll want to start with Crest of the Stars, then Banner, then Banner II, like 36 episodes altogether. Capeta is a must watch for fans of racing anime, though especially the first half has a rather young focus, but still great. Denno Coil is supposed to be good, but never seen it. Can't really say about the others.

Yeah, Capeta looks like it could be a waaaaaay better racing anime than Initial D or Wangan Midnight.

After I finish compiling my list, I'll probably let you guys vote on what I watch next from the list. :P

I've watched 4 episodes.

I'm 13, I watched Pokemon when I was around 9 or 10, and while at 13 I'm thinking of going back at the saga.

Finished Initial D though, but I can't move my lazy ass to Wangan Midnight. How could I see the R33's without moving on D:

AOS on what he said like a few hours ago..

Kanji? or Alphabets?

I'll look for a much more detailed font if we agree on the former.

Or either make it small in the bottom right corner, or get rid of it altogether and centering the image...?

@uMadison, I'd say watch Capeta before Wangan Midnight

@AOS-, the kanji looks cool, but doesn't really help to get other GTPers learning at least the names of animes. But at least it lets others know this is Japanese-animation we're talking about and not cartoons. Also, the AUP says everything should be in english, though I know that part is not always strictly enforced, unless it's whole conversations going on in polish or spanish something.

AUP says we'll converse in proper English-only, nothing about having non-english characters in avatars.. and if this violates it, then that's just dumb.

Agreed.

My signature has Japanese in it, so it technically violates the AUP also. Hopefully no moderator or admin feels the need to enforce that particular rule so strictly. Some rules (i.e. poorly thought-out ones) are meant to be broken.
