The Grand Tour Game Review: And on That Terrible Disappointment...

The Grand Tour Game was always going to be pretty crap. As a Gran Turismo player though I do envy the fact they get the Porsche 918 Spyder and Circuit de Algarve (Portimao).

Is this game as bad as we expected though?

I Remember seeing the first footage a few months ago and thought it looked unplayable.

Driving games in general can't be done without serious work on them these days though, it will always end up terrible otherwise.

Why wasn’t it a mobile game?

Any company with such a property that is looking to make money would’ve gone the freemium mobile route! Why would they do this to themselves?

It’s for that person’s uncle, the one that laughs in unison with his kids each time Clarkson shouts “moar powah!”

So, I guess I‘m that person. All though I have no kids. But you can complain all you want. I‘m a fan of the show and the guys and I will play TGTG until the Platinum trophy.

Frankly I wasn't expecting much after seeing the first trailer...We couldn't even see the interior of the cars, which is the standard for racing games nowadays.

Yet, they couldn't even deliver a simple online mode? I don't understand what they were thinking here then.

Get PCARS2. It has both, and they actually resemble the real thing. 👍

It's both better and worse than I expected. The graphics are much better now than in the pre-release images, but the controls have zero depth and the challenges are all hyper-short. There's no difficulty settings either: I get that it's targeted at a broad audience but I'm finding zero replayability.

I didn't expect it to be a sim.
Also wasn't expecting Wheel Support.
Humm ( I bet the T80 will work )

Any way, It's a lot of Fun, it keeps with the Humor of the Show..
So if you're a Fan of the show, the Game adds to that.

I'll be one of the ones, that will continue to play, Enjoy, and have fun with it.
Great bang for the Buck !

Ep 2 is now out a day after the show

Edited to update: As its actually episode 2 and 3, its both a day late and six days early!

It makes sense, really. May as well combine the two episodes in-game rather than split it into two parts. I thought that was a good move. This game makes me look forward to the next episodes even more. I saw the Nio EP9 in the series montage so, would that make TGT Game the EP9's videogame debut or was it in a game before then?

The issue is that its not been communicated at all, so they run the risk of losing the audience.

Its a first as far as I know.

Episode 2 & 3 review.

Glitch on May's Panda once it gets 'camo'd up', the interior becomes transparent (its easier to see in the video above).

And we have a new episode and some new lows.

Gameplay this week is 15 minutes worth (a new low by my count), licencing sees the Project 8 get wrapped up in insulation sheets and yellow tape, and the devs prove they can make on rail shooter controls just as badly as they do arcade race physics.

Update:
I received my T80, and yes, it works perfectly with the Grand Tour.
And What a difference a wheel makes..
This will never appeal to the hardcore SIM members.
But for some good FUN, it's a blast.

You can Even do Head to Head with Dual T80's

1st, the T80 has a PS4 - PS3 switch on it.
Make sure it is switched to PS4, before you plug it in.

The T80 has two Modes.
Wheel Mode ( Solid Red LED ) - Doesn't work with Grand Tour
Controller Mode ( Blinking RED, Orange, or Green LED ) This Works with Grand Tour, and
Most any other driving game that only uses a Controller.

To Switch Modes from Wheel mode , Solid LED to Controller mode, Blinking LED
Unplug the T80.
HOLD the PS button while you Plug it in.
That will Toggle it from One Mode to the Other.
It will remember that Last mode used, till you Switch modes using the PS button while Plugging it in.

In Controller Mode only, you can change the Sensitivity of the Steering.

At the Same time, press on the D-Pad, while also pressing Both Paddle Shifters.
this will cycle the Color of the Flashing LED.
Red = Low Sensitivity
Orange = Medium Sensitivity
Green = High Sensitivity

That flashing LED is Annoying and Bright. So I've put a bit of Duct tape ( Gorilla brand )
over it. It's bright enough in Red and Orange that you can still dimly see it.

The Pedals can be Hard Mounted.
On the Bottom side are Two Threaded inserts.
It's a pain to fit the fastener up from underneath.
I have a wooden Platform for the Pedals.
So I was able to Drill a Hole from the bottom side, through the threaded Insert hole, and right Through the plastic of the T80.
There are no wires or circuit board in this area.
Then, using the Through hole, I screwed it down from the Top, to my Wooden Base.

You will want to hard mount your Pedals...
Nothing worse than the pedals skating away from you all the time.

For the Price of this Game,
I feel it was well worth it for the Amount of Fun I'm having with it.
The T80 really does makes it that much better..

Brand New T80's can be found for just under $100 with Free shipping.
Used, you can find them for $25 to $60, but you have to pay shipping.
so Be careful how much you pay / bid. $60 plus $25 for Shipping, I'd just get a new one...
It's Bungee Cord tension, not Force feed back.
The Pedals are the same level of quality that came with the TRS-300 wheel.
Cheap plastic arms and pedal faces, but they work.
This is not the sort of Wheel you can abuse...

Is it worth $100?
Yes, I think it is.
You can use it with NFS series, Drive Club, Grand Tour, some of the Table top racer games, Pcars and Pcars2
F1 series. Almost any driver that supports a Controller.
the T80 in Controller mode will work.

Some titles have direct support for the T80 in Wheel mode. ( Solid LED )
I haven't tried it with Rocket league, but I'm pretty sure it can work with that game too.

So Invest in a T80, and make all the Controller based Drivers Better.
It sure has added to the enjoyment of the Grand Tour Game.

Nice write up, but to be fair I think I will stick with my T300 rig.

Yeah, but you can't use it to drive cars in the Grand tour.
I have a Full Fanatec Rig

the Only reason I got the T80 was so I could use a Wheel with the Grand tour..

I think you Missed the Entire point of my Post.
