This is a thread for all of us GTP members who have had to buy new PS2 consoles because of GT4.

Playing too much? I guess I fall under this, as only a couple months ago I had to replace my PS2 slim after 5 years.

I had to replace my console last week after GT4 refused to read the disc.

I bought my PS2 about a year after they came out and it still works! Of all the things I own, I've owned it the second longest. Got a disc-read error problem once, adjusted the nylon gear that sets the depth of the 'eye' and it's been good ever since.

When I bought GT4 my original PS2 wouldn't read it, so I got a slimline a year after the PS3 came out

I've had to change my copy of GT4 due to a huge screwup on my part but it hasn't killed my PS2. It might have done a little unknown damage but it still works fine.

My PS2 never ran on my fat on release. So my sister bought a thin and I basically took it off her, she never used it.

About a year later my Dad cleaned out my PS2 because a DVD wouldn't play on it, and then it worked fine, played GT4 without a hitch.

So that's a lesson, if your console won't play it first clean the dust out etc. before buying a new one.

The problem with GT4 is that unlike most other PS2 games its on a dual-layer disc and sometimes the layers struggled to read it on the older consoles (over 2 years old).
