As GT5 draws to a close for most of us (yes I'm sure there will still be some die hard fans out there playing GT5 after GT6 comes out), it's time to start to say goodbye. The purpose of this thread is to say goodbye to GT5, a game that (despite being flawed in some areas) provided us players with lots and lots of content, online racing and oh yeah, fun! Here you can say your goodbyes, get some closure and so on.

Not sure what to say? Feel free to use the format below or go freestyle if you prefer. If you feel this thread is a waste of time, please respect us that don't.

- How much did you like GT5 compared to GT4 and other similar sims? What kept you coming back?

- Will you keep your copy of GT5 after GT6 comes out? If so/not, why? Would you be tempted to play GT5 in a few months time to see if anything changed?

- Feel free to share your one most memorable moment of playing GT5.

Here is my vent:

Goodbye old friend GT5. I've owned you since day -1 (I got it one day early as a local Target store broke embargo) and loved every moment I played you. I started playing GT5 with a Logitec G25 which I thought was awesome, until the pedals stopped working (later found out that it was just the cable that got slightly cut) so I then upgraded to a Fanatec Porsche GT3 RS V2 with Clubsport pedals and what a major step up in feel, realism and feedback!

I also had some fun/frustration telling (or trying to) Bob what to do in B-spec, simply to try and get 100% on the game and to earn a few more credits to buy and modify expensive cars. I was also quite frustrated with the Redbull Special events with that German driver (what ever his name is lol) and that ridiculous pretend racing car. On another hand, I found the Volkswagen Kombi and amphibious vehicle races very entertaining!

So far I feel GT6 is an improvement but I can still see the DNA passed down from it's predecessor, GT5, so in a way I guess I won't miss GT5 as much because of that. I will still keep my copy of GT5 for at least a while, depends if GT6 is completely different or not. I feel it won't be as it will make GT5 feel a bit the same but with less cars and tracks and less realistic driving simulation.

I think the car collecting and online racing kept me coming back to GT5. I enjoyed expanding upon my collection and setting up different cars for different purposes. And the main difference between this game and the previous games in the series is that I could show them off and race, drift, or just cruise them with fellow players. If I needed any advice regarding tuning, I could also ask some of the other players for help as well. Granted the community wasn't necessarily full of clean and respectable players, there was still quite a large crowd of them that I knew I'd run into at least one of whenever I'd go online. Especially when I feigned "rivalries" with some other good clean drivers. We'd go back and forth, re-tuning our cars, going back to the license tests to sharpen our driving skills and then race again some other time, trying to make sure I would come out on top the next time I raced against them. I've made quite a few good friends from several of the PP specific, clean-racing rooms, and I really enjoyed that portion of the game.

I see absolutely no reason to get rid of GT5. I've kept all of its predecessors and I still revisit them once in a while. A couple of months ago, I re-beat GT1 and GT2, racing some of my good old killers (the TVR Cerebra LM Edition and Dodge Concept Car LM Edition, respectively). Pretty soon, after I'm done with my college term and while I'm waiting for GT6 to arrive in the mail, I'd probably revisit the PS2 era GTs to pass the time, as it has been a little while since I've revisited them. The Gran Turismo games are definitely games I like revisiting every once in a while, because each one has something that I like that sets it apart from the other games in the series and I can experience sweet nostalgia from each and every one of them. I remember my cousins introducing me to the original PS1 era Gran Turismos and I remember getting a PS2 for Christmas in late 2001 along with GT3. I remember the excitement I had that Christmas morning when I popped that game in. I could hardly contain myself!

GT5 is definitely a game I'll revisit in time to see exactly how the games progressed in terms of simulation. I will be sad when the online servers are shut down, but I'll always remember the amazing racing I had, and all the friends I made on that game. I don't think the other games have caused me to improve my driving skills as much as GT5 has. (Even though I'm still not exactly GT Academy material. I can still say I am rather skilled.)

My apologies for making a post that's essentially made up of disorganized thoughts, but I just figured I'd let my thoughts pour out rather than worry about structure. (That is kind of the point of the thread, is it not?)

I'm planning to delete GT5 from my HDD, because I have an old 40GB one and I already have pretty many games (I also had to delete GTA IV to install GTA V). But never say never - if I do decide to swap the hard drive at last, I'll re-install all my old games including GT5. The Top Gear test track and the F1 Ferraris will be worth it.
Now, I'm hurrying up getting 40 lvl in B-spec and completing all of the endurance races, and giving out my cars from the garage to my friends who are in need - because they'll have no use to me for a long time.

I liked GT4 better than GT5, I'm not going to lie. However, GT5 gave me a release during a very challenging time in my life. I was working 12-16 hour days 5-6, sometimes even 7 days a week in a high stress job. For those precious few moments I got before I went to work and before I went to bed, GT5 helped me unwind. This game literally helped me keep my sanity while I was working that job! I definitely plan on keeping the game and definitely plan on playing well into GT6 and beyond, just like I still play GT3 and GT4 at least a couple times a month. This is only goodbye to GT5 online and probably these very forums as everybody migrates to the GT6 forums. While that still is a lot to say goodbye to, I know I still can revisit my old friend, sitting on my shelf next to the PS3 anytime I want.

I have not played GT3 or GT4 in years (PS2 was my first console), but I keep them because I'm a hoarder. I haven't played GT5 since GTA came out, but I'll go back to it a few days before GT6 to get ready.

I enjoyed collecting my 1200+ cars. I think I got pretty close to every model. I don't know of anything I missed.

GT5, I spent too many hours improving my racing skills with you... I have every car that I want, and 9,000,000. I beat your career mode to the point of satisfaction, so long ago that I don't even remember it, was November 2010-Febuary 2011. Your online mode was the most difficult and annoying... sometimes great though. I can't believe you are dying GT5... GT6 is replacing you completely, with is fanciness... WOOOOO!!!! GT6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodbye old friend, even though you were a game with many flaws I was able to see past them, there were always those special moments. You had that spirit that all other Gran Turismo games possess, that deep love for the soul of cars and driving. ;(

Got this game on day 1. Loved it, even though it was flawed.

I'll miss my collection of 9 LFA 's. I love em all.will never forget many times my
Game got corrupted. But I still got over 800 cars.
Bye old pal.:):(

This game was flawed, I cannot deny that. But since I got in in 2010 it has given me countless hours of excitement, joy, and thrills. I have gone from being a fairly decent driver to a level I never thought was imaginable for me thanks to this game. I have lived out tuning and racing dreams through this game. I got into online racing on this game. I got 90% of my PSN friends through this game. Most of all though, I joined GTP because of this game. I cannot express how much fun I have had in these few years, and with a few weeks to go for me, I will keep racing and driving for sheer enjoyment. Thanks PD for Gran Turismo 5:cheers:

I like that the OP states we will "start" to say goodbye to GT5. We are not saying a final goodbye now, and many of us probably won't for a while yet.

I have played all the Gran Turismo (full release) games thoroughly, and my favorite so far is GT5. (I liked GT3 better than GT4, for some reason.) Anyway, I haven't spent much time with other driving sims over the years, but I did give many of them a fair shot including Forza/2/3 (I also have an Original Xbox and Xbox 360). Some of them were good but I felt that none of them really measured up to GT.

I kept coming back to GT because of the career system progression, the variety of racing (rally, drift, formula, JGTC/Super GT, etc), the car tuning and customization (please don't start with the liveries), the bonus events, the arcade racing, just about all of it... but mostly it was the online racing that kept me glued to GT5. It was hardly perfect but it worked pretty well most of the time, for me. Others will surely disagree but I really like GT5 online. And to be honest, a small part of why I kept coming back was to keep my earnings bonus up to 200%, and to give away cars to friends at the rate of one per day.

Yes I will keep my copy of GT5 after GT6 comes out because it's not really worth any money to sell or trade. And I still have 20GB left on my PS3 HDD so there's no need (yet) to delete the install or game saves. I don't suppose that I will be coming back to GT5 a whole lot after GT6, maybe once every month or two just for nostalgia purposes... I still plug in my PS2 a couple times a year for the same reasons, to revisit an old favorite. I'd rather play GT3 on PS2 than many of the current "hot" titles on the PS3.

Thank you GT5 for many late nights of online excitement, chatting with fun and cool people from all over the world that I'll never meet in person, and all the other good times we have shared. I won't miss your annoying UCD song or the laggy menus or the online black screen race starts, and I won't miss you saving to the hard drive every time a screen changes, but I will still miss you... for a while.

The F'10 is the last car I will drive on GT5, right before GT6 comes out. I will miss the F1 cars a lot on GT, too bad we will lose them on GT6.
Goodbye :nervous:

Goodbye GT5! It was fun having you around. I remember buying a PS3 3 years ago just for you (That PS3 died of YLOD while playing GT5 :(), thank you for the countless hours of fun you gave me I will surely miss you although I promise to play you every now and then just like what I did with GT3 and GT4. Goodbye you will always be my best racing game on the PS3 (Till GT6 comes out ;)).

What can I say about GT5? It opened lots of doors for me. I made lots of new friends out of that game. Learned basic photography with it too. Plus the physics, while proved flawed by its successor, is a good primer to realistic racing. I tried playing GT4 a few times to compare the physics between the two, and I should say, GT5 is a remarkable improvement. I think GT4 has pushed the boundaries of the PS2 the same way GT5 did to the PS3. And looking back to what I used to be, GT5 did make a better driver out of me

And there's also the social aspect of it- being addicted to the game somehow lead me to this forum. I met lots of people who made good use of the game. Tuners, photographers, drivers, you name it, I've tried being with them. GT5 paved the way to international relationships I never knew I would have.

GT5 also made me try new things too. I learned the ropes of photography just by practicing on GT5's Photo Mode. It was really cool to see actual photographers do their thing in this game and even share tips with the entire GTP community. Then there are the people active in the race reports section, they somehow influenced me into writing stuff. My close ties with certain people of GT5's tuning scene also made me try a bit of it, hell, I joined a tuner shootout involving IS F RC's and won it by cheating. Nobody even noticed how I used an 88% power limiter  What's ironic though is that even if I bothered myself to try all these, I didn't have the motivation to keep at it. I once ran a car reviews thread together with a very close friend but my lack of focus has made it completely desolate. I have plans on reviving that project once I get my hands on GT6.

I doubt I'll return to GT5 soon, but I'm not going to throw the disc either. There's always what you call a personal collection, and that's where my copy of GT5 will be going to. Kept safe and displayed with honor together with my pile of HW cars and whatnot.

It's been a fun ride, GT5. Bring on GT6.

I could probably write a pretty interesting story about my life here with GT5 - "A Quest is Born" but I will just keep it short and sweet and bid thee a fond farewell to the game that has got me through so many dark times in my life the last 3 years. Many great memories also which will never be forgotten. Looking forward to the next chapter in my gaming life...GT6 - "The Quest Continues" ;)

I said goodbye a while ago when I completed it and moved to Forza4. Looking forward to coming back for GT6 even though Forza5 and the better graphics of the next gen console are not available. Reviews are that the game is soft and microtransaction driven. Worst is they even have less tracks and car content and can't even fix aero damage during a pit stop. Pretty pathetic bunch, don't even support their own forza branded wheel on the new console platform. I hope GT7 doesn't follow the same path. Oh well looking forward to GT6, hopefully won't be so much of a grind GT5 was.

Will I miss GT5? Yes, without a doubt. Will I continue to play it like I do with GT3? Most likely not (in fact, I'm playing GT3 as I'm typing this. Racing my Zonda C12 around Midfield raceway :) ). I never really played GT4 since my fat PS2 would always freeze after a race, but GT3 was honestly more enjoyable. It was less but more at the same time I guess. I will miss the online from GT5 with my friends though. I downgraded to 2.11 to make hybrids again since online is almost dead now. Cannot wait for GT6 though! I'm so excited :3

i only joined playstation and gt5 because of my brother and his cancer, i had always been a forza fan, played the gt series on ps1 but that was it, then i borrowed a friends to play with my brother at first it was new i was a drifter that couldnt hold a slide. but in that week of borrowing i learnt alot realised i ad to set cars up mostly to my real life car as the physics were pretty real. it was after that week i swapped my xbox360 and 40 games for a ps3 and gt5. some say it was dumb but it put me in touch with a community more superior than the forza DL. for that im grateful and even though my ps3 died on me i will buy another one and i will get GT6. Gran Turismo shares a quote with the playstation 4 that forza will never live up to. goodbye GT5 and hello GT6 - This Is For The Gamers

I played online this morning for the last time. Used '09 ZR1, '12 GT-R Black, '10 Vantage. Deleted everything and my GT5 Signature copy is next to the Signature box in the closet.

Personally I counted GT5 as my most disappointing game of the generation - but spent over 300 hours playing it :) Overhyped to the nth degree, but still a very engaging racing sim which was always my #1 choice when I felt like doing a few laps around the 'Ring, or just buying a few more Lambos and painting them every color in the rainbow. And there were always plenty of new challenges from the seasonal events, making a new career mode every time I'd put it in after not having played it for a few months.

I traded in my original copy but then picked up the XL version when that came out. Never managed to platinum it due to the Vettel race around Suzuka, but I did get gold in the first two races. Managed 100% completion after doing all the endurance races. My best memory was doing the 24 hours of Nurburgring - it rained all night, which kept me on my toes in my hugely powerful rear wheel drive car. Then the rain finally stopped in the morning, the darkness lifted, and I could really wring every last second out of my lap times.

I'll keep my copy of GT5, who knows maybe I'll want to play it again someday. I pre-ordered GT6 the day after it was announced and am still a bit astonished that it's actually being released without a year's worth of delays :)

You will still fricken have them in your shelf of games ya weirdo lol :) jk
haha, unfortunately there is not enough space on my ps3 for both, I will have to delete gt5 installation. Also, I hope that gt6 will be good enough to make me forget about gt5 :P
At least we still have the Formula GT 👍

Well, i'm really gonna miss my stealth models, specially the 787B and SLS AMG. :nervous:

But hopefully GT6 will bring new life into the GT series were it has died a bit for me.

Ah, the reason I started playing PS3 again. Despite the game becoming stale to me within about 5 months of playing, I still came back for the cars. I just loved driving them around the Nurburgring. I did so many Arcade races around the that track, both AI and free runs, probably did more on it alone than I did career races. I'll keep it after I get GT6, yes, but not play it much. I just don't see the need to, it's served its time no less, and, as a veteran discharges from service, we bid farewell to GT5.

My only regret is never getting around to join one of the leagues at GTP. :indiff:

 GT5...Thanks for all the memories...

I will miss the Ferrari F2007.

Here are vids of her last hurrah cutting loose at Nurburgring Nordschleife...my Homage to GT5. Enjoy the ride,

Ferrari F2007 on Nordschleife Reverse

...and GT5's Encore...craziest racing car on craziest racing track. Thanks GT5

.....READY for GT6!
