Welcome, to the GTP debate thread, that is not sponsered in anyway by GTP, it just happens to be in its forums!

RULES:
  • Don't open up an old debate! Just start with something new once the "old" debate is over with.
  • Don't flame! This is merely a political debate thread.
  • Have fun! Don't take anything too seriously.

WHY?

Because I felt that GTP needed something like this in the opinions forum. Because debates start all the time, this is a good place to take them.

YOUR 1ST TOPIC:

Abortion

This is kinda interesting, because we just wrapped up debates in Honors English last week. :) (More formal, as in three contentions, cross examination, and rebuttal). Anyway...

My stance: Pro-choice. Let 'em choose what happens in their body. Cut-off? I'll side with Duke's proposal of 6 months into the pregnancy.

Haha, glad that you like it!

My opinion: It is that person's body but the baby has a future. I mean, if you really love it, you'll have the baby and give to a foster home. But let it know that it was adopted. Personally, I would never take someone's life away from them like that.

I'd say it's the people who are carrying the babies' choice. I'd say a cut off of 3 months though. 6 months is a bit late.

I think the parents have to take the decision that will give the child the best chance of a decent life.

I would agree with a 3-month cut-off generally, with the scope for alteration in special circumstances.

I'm a pragmatist on this issue. I don't like abortion, but legalisation can contribute to a heallthy environment in which to do the act. It gives the government the ability to impose regulations without the appearance of hypocrisy.

I'm pro choice.

I don't know when the "no going back" point should be.

Pro-choice here. And my 6-month rule is really for the point at which the fetus develops individual rights apart from the mother's.

I'd say for discretionary abortions, a cutoff date of 3 or 4 months works well. Long enough that the woman has at least 30 days after finding out that she is pregnant to determine her course of action, before the fetus develops too far.

For abortions with a medical reason (either health threat to the mother, or identified congenital defect to the child) I'll go to 6 months.

In rebuttal, I have to say that I don't really like the idea either.

probably most peoples thoght about abortion is that they don't like the idea of it. i certainly don'tand no-one can claim to like it.. it's not about that i guess, it is about idividual cituations. its difficult to know how we would act in some of these peoples place.

one thing that i hate is when i hear stories about woman that have had 3 and 4 abortions.. that is just a disregard for life

abortions should be used in cases of emergencies, such as the baby being born with certain diseases or sydromes, or it will really mess up the lives of the pair.
now if the woman is having multiple abortions, someone should put a chastise belt on her and throw away the key.

I agree with regulate. I personally am pro-life. I don't think it's fair that the child should die because the parent wants them too. That's basically murder, because you're killing someone. It doesn't make sense that you can kill a newborn but you can't kill anyone older than that. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't believe any of the Pro-choice people here feel it's OK to kill a newborn.

Abortion is a touchy subject. So many views and opinions. Yay!

I feel abortion is absolutely wrong. If you create a child while having sex then that's on you. You need to take responcibility for your stupidity and raise that child, or at least ive birth to it, then give it away. How hard is that? If you don't want it to start with, then just give it away when it's born, no emotional crap there. Jeez.

Abortion is only right when the women has been raped. Thing is, how can you tell if the women was raped? If this were the case or whatnot, all women would just go in and say they were forced to have sex.

Abortion, what to do...

Can i suggest a topic?..

What about the money that governments spend on space exploration....US, Russia, and now China....and the European Space Agency too....

would these billions be better spend on improving teachers wages, hiring better doctors and nurses and helping underpriviliged children and getting more police in the inner city and cutting crime?

or do you think that the exploration of space and the planets is the way forward and we need to understand it if we are to survive?...

But they feel it's ok to end a life. I guess it all depends on what your point of view is about when life begins.
