There's a real irony to Sport mode in GT7. They want to encourage sporting behaviour and good racing etiquette, and yet if you actually display sporting behaviour your are penalised doubly.
So if I run into someone by mistake, and they get nudged off track, it is ingrained into me that if it was my fault, I will move to the side of the track and allow them to rejoin and pass before I set off again. But once you've served this penalty, you're slapped with another enforced penalty, by the time it's been served you're even further behind.
The irony being that it disincentiveses the sportsmanlike behaviour they want to encourage, as no one is going to want two penalties. In many cases a 1-2 sec penalty is not close to the lost time for the person pushed off.
