I will start off by saying this is a remake, of a remake, of a remake. (sort of) and i actually liked the middle remake. I refer to the Vinnie Jones flick "Mean Machine". That was more of a drama & had some very effective scenes, & one that made me get all watery in the eye. But "The Longest yard" is very much a comedy.

Crowe (Adam Sandler, Waterboy) is a washed up (american) footballer, who get sent to prison for GTA, drink driving & evading police. Once he's in there he meets the warden who tells him he is to help train his (american) football team. After a few minutes he decides to do it & then some how gets roped into doing a pre-game match against the guards. With help of new best friends "Caretaker" (Chris Rock, Lethal Weapon 4) and Burt Reynolds character (forgot his name).

Rock & Sandler are as entertaining as usual. Sandler with his brand of silly goofball comedy (which in my eyes is a good thing) & Rock with his "racsist" white jokes. But dont worry they are funny & if you actaully find him rascist dont worry, alot of black people get smacked in this. Reynolds is kinda pointless, he's just there to be an "ome" to the original.

Finding all the different people to play the game in prison is funny, meeting men of all (ahem) shapes and sizes. But as is with this sort of film you know how it will end, all the same ent they. Its still funny but at some parts maybe gets a little bit to serious for the film its trying to be.

Oh but the cheerleaders are hilarious!

7/10

I personally thought this was the third worst movie I saw all year, after Alone in the Dark and The Devil's Rejects. I did not laugh once, and I'm a big fan of Chris Rock. Sandler's time has come and gone, and it's time he hung up his cape; I'm sure I'm not the only one who's tired of settling for mediocrity in his movies. Nothing he's done recently has come close to equalling Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore.

While I didn't think this was all THAT bad I do agree with the last sentence, none of his recent films are near the standards he set for himself in thoes.

I enjoyed it. But I enjoyed Sin City.

Went to the cinema to see this and it was worth it. Great laugh, also made us look forward to playing American Football in P.E, sadly the classes ability is abit low 👎

This cannot be compared with Alone in the Dark, that was a truelly monumentally horribly bad film!
I am surprised that you like Sandler & Rock and you didnt laugh once! even my dad laughed at bits & he dosent have a sense of humour!
You didnt find the cheerleaders funny?? or any of the HUGE blokes kicking the crap outa people??

So whats peoples fav Adam Sandler films?? heres a list of what i seen and what i think:
Waterboy - 8/10
Big Daddy - 6/10
Billy Madison - 6/10
Bulletproof - 7/10
Happy Gilmore - 7/10
Mr. Deeds - 7/10 (i love the "swift" John Turturo in this!)

All good, big Daddy his worst in my opinion, but no bad films among em.

I liked Billy Madison the best, then Happy Gilmore. After that, there wasn't one I thought was a genuinely "good" movie other than The Wedding Singer. I know I'm alone in my contention, but I thought The Waterboy was garbage, as was Mr. Deeds and Little Nicky. However, I can see how Sandler fans would like those.

No, you're not. I did enjoy parts of Waterboy (Fairuza did it for me), but for the most part Deeds was horrible. I didn't bother with Little Nicky. Happy was perhaps his best, and it's been a steady decline from there. I'll not even mention Anger Management.

As for the longest yard, it did have some funny moments and was worth a bowl of microwave popcorn.

I usually didn't like Adam Sandler flicks, including Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. I liked the Wedding Singer, Waterboy a bit better. Those of you who think Sandler is washed up is forgetting his "real" works like "Punch Drunk Love" and "Spanglish". I was impressed with those.

As far as "The Longest Yard" goes, I still haven't rented the Sandler's version. I have seen the Burt Reynolds' and the "Mean Machine" as well, and I really liked both. I hope to enjoy the latest version, soon. *crosses fingers* ;)

I forgot about little knicky, that was a great flick, i loved that dog!
Wedding singer was ok, i dnt usually like rom coms.

The waterboy is a classic! how could you not find Bobby Bushey funny! Did you not find it funny cause it was politically incorrect??
I loved the waterboy

I guess Waterboy is just the movie where I began to get tired of Sandler's rehashed jokes. How many times am I expected to laugh at "You can do it!"? For me, once was enough.

I enjoyed Spanglish and, to a lesser extent, Punch Drunk Love, though I suspect this had more to do with the writing / directing than it did with Sandler himself. As for Anger Management, I found it to be mostly forgettable, and somewhat of a waste of a potentially good Nicholson flick.

That was pretty horrible. I thought Nicholson/Sandler combo was going to be so excitiing, until I started watching few minutes into the movie.

As I was watching The Longest Yard, I was thinking to myself "Haven't I seen this before?". And it's not because it's a remake, I haven't even seen the original. It's just that these types of sports movies are way overdone, with the "Huge underdog finally comes together and plays like a team to win the big game!" storyline. Did it have some funny parts? Sure. But I feel like I'm watching the same movie over and over again with different actors. Maybe it doesn't help that The Longest Yard and Mean Machine are the exact same movie. If you want to watch a good football movie, watch Friday Night Lights. That movie was great.

Yeah, the Sandler/Rob "You can do it!" was old. But Rob's version in The Longest Yard was hilarious. I won't ruin for anyone either.

I liked Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, and The Waterboy.

But Billy Madison is BY FAR his greatest work with Happy Gilmore 2nd. The Longest Yard is my 3rd favorite as of now. The rest are so-so.

Billy Madison...a classic comedy film.
Who doesn't love the old Conditoner Vs. Shampoo battle?

"Stop looking at me Swan!"

Is it me...or could Rob be the reason Sandler is going downhill? I enjoy Rob...sometimes.

I'm watching the Longest Yard, tonight. But I'll make sure to check out Friday Night Lights. Somehow, I missed that one.

Good man. I'll watch for it. ;)

Well, I watched it. Few jokes in it were really funny, but overall, it's a rental at best(and I think I'm being kind). During last parts of the movie, it was really hard to watch, because I just didn't care for any of the characters. Original with Burt Reynolds was pretty good, so was "Mean Machine". I'd recommend those.

P.S. I just remembered another great Adam Sandler flick, "50 First Dates". 👍
