Has anybody seen this movie? I have. It is really really good. The movie was longer than Titanic I think. I walked into the movies at like 4:00 and ended up leaving at like 7:30! Has anybody else seen this movie or read the books? How would you say the movie was?

Hey I love this kind of thing, and that Michael Flatley is awsome. I've been a fan of Celtic dance for quite a while, but now there is finally something really polished for everyone to enjoy.
I also love when they....
Hey, wait a minute....
Ohhhhh..... This is about Lord of the Rings...
I thought it was a thread for Lord of the Dance... ;)

very amusing hahahaha..... :)

friends that have seen it say it is close to being better than star wars, but i think they must be on drugs...

I saw it last night and really liked it, but I had to try to like it. It didn't grip me, or catch my interest, I just carried on watching it to see if it would. There are some bits in it which are simply awesome, but they only account for about 1hr of the running time. It's lavish and well done, but not gripping.

Not to me, anyway.
6/10

:P This is the best movie I've ever seen on the big-screen! :P

Can't wait for the next part..oh well...just one year to go... :(

Just bought the book, though, so that'll keep me warm for a while!

Three Rings for the Elven-Kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

What do you mean O.......k?

It's supposedly from the book.

Look up the quote for yourself.

It's a good line.

A friend of mine went to the world premiere (lucky dawg) and he said:

"The true test is, is it as good as Star Wars? And the answer is yes"

And I TRUST this guy. we'd better go see it....

ok guys i watched this movie last night and i must say it is visually stunning in some scenes and a pretty good film all in all , the test is would i watch it again ?? and the answer ! too right , gotta love the druid fight absolutely brill ;) i await the next installment :D

? is it better than starwars ? NO not for originality ! but in effects ? of course ! :)

I saw it yesterday as well and it rocked.

Some poetic license taken, but mostly true to the book and very, very good. Awesome fight scenes and special effects. Can't wait for the next ones.

Kind of agree with P though - special effects better than SW, but overall maybe not as good. Veeeeeeeeeeeery close though.

well i must be the odd one out ..I was totally borded to long ended stupid ( i know its a 3 part series) but I will not be going back to see the rest I was ready to leave with in the first hour ..scenery was great but that was about all ... at least a long movie like titanic keep you wondering and it didnt feel long Lord of the ring did and my bum knew it :thumbsdow

I fail to see how anyone could not like this movie. In my opinion it's one of the best film adaptations of literature I've ever seen. Only two were better IMO - "The OdeSSa File", which is an adaptation of a Frederick Forsyth novel, and "Pride and Prejudice", which is an adaptation of a Jane Austin novel, and neither of those posed the technical challenges of the effects of LOTR.

That said, the books are better. I've read them several times and I always see new things in them. I've also read other works by Tolkien so I had alot of background going in. The Movie tries hard to stick closely to the books and is quite successful, but the very nature of Popular films means that it's a little dumbed down and the plot is streamlined and simplified. Still, an excellent job.

As with all films that were first books, I recommend reading the book beforehand. Once you read Fellowship, you'll want to read the others - the story is that good. Tolkien isn't a legend for no reason.

STAR WARS was great for the first three films, and I'm lucky enough to have seen at least one of those in the theater when it was new. But Episode 1 and the forthcoming two episodes are little more than dumbed-down Toy commercials that appeal mainly to nine year olds and have more cameos than a Jewelry store. I can't stand them and basically think they're vile - the originals were world class and deserved better than to be followed up by Jar Jar Binks and Pod racing.

Yaaaaay!!! I finally saw this movie. I can't believe that I missed out on it when it was first released! It was actually quite good, which was a surprise. :D
As for it's comparison to Star Wars? Not as good as the original, or Empire strikes Back, on par with Return of the Jedi, and it kills Episode 1 (Bleah, Bleah!!! :P )

It is the best movie i have seen in years.
But now, we have to wait a whole year untill they release part 2
WHY???

December 18th is a long way away, I know... As far as I heard it, as soon as filming was comleted, they worked on the special effects for the first movie, then they began on the second which is why we are stuck waiting. (And there are tons of effects, even if they are as sublte as the height differences)
I think it's totally worth the wait. :D

Having said that.... I totally agree with you, and wanted to yell at the screen when it ended the way it did...
;)

i've read all of the books and saw the movie, it didn't seem as long as titanic because this one was fun titanic was boring.

I believe that Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers comes out on December 18th (Wednesday)
In August LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring comes out on DVD with the extra Footage shown in theatres at Oscar Time. Then in the fall (Around Thanksgiving) a Directors cut will be released on DVD and will weigh in at around 4 and a half hours. (Extended battle scene in the beginning, and more backstory for Stryder, and more love story for him and Arwen Liv Tyler)
Can't wait..... :D

Wow, that is awesome:drool: You know, I tried reading the book, but I couldn't understand it. Now that I saw this (awesome) movie, I have a better understanding and appreciation for the book.
