The Lure of Seasonals.

What would be the lure of Seasonals for you?

Is it the credits? Or the prize cars? Or Paint Chips? Or the Leaderboard fame?

Or just the anticipation of something 'new'? Or the chance of a fresh challenge?

Or something else entirely?

Have your say till we await the next batch. Whenever the next batch arrives, that is. :)

It used to be having a clean-ish and good race with the AI (For race events), but not anymore.
I just do them mainly for the credits, and sometimes for paint chips.

On time/drift trials, there's no lure for me really. I just do it for my own enjoyment.

You must have enjoyed the higher payouts from the crop of Holiday Seasonals, in spite of PD raising the bar on those particular events - I did.

The drift and time trials hold no interest for me. They are vital information to PD at setting the 'difficulty/easy' bar though, and I always encourage people to take part in such trials.
In fact I used to be more active in the Time Trials in GT5, but have left it alone in GT6 since they are quite active now, as well I have only so much time to focus on what whets my appetite.

What whets my appetite is 20M prize cars, rare paint chips, and of course better payouts.
The challenge to acquire them is also fun - if it doesn't turn out to be too much of a grind, and Sony keeping me online for an unnecessarily long time.
I also look forward always to investigating any new suspicious rabbits that appear.

I don't care about the credits. They just make me buy cars I don't want so there's room in my account for the new earnings--and the new cars go to the stockyard.

New seasonals are just a reason for me to keep playing. A new challenge, a new paint chip, and, if an interesting car/track combo, a way to measure myself against my faster friends.

I look forward to them every week, gold them in an hour, and put it away until next week.

Part of this is that I have a perfect streak I don't want to break--I've golded every GT6 seasonal. OCD, perhaps?

I'm sure many others feel the same way. Payouts would make no sense for those who glitched, as well, and have all the cars they need.
I, myself, went over the 20M only twice so far, and that to get two particular 20M cars I wanted.
I only harvest credits when I need to, otherwise I have more cars than I have time for.
The credits usually go into endless paint-jobs (I might paint a car six times before I'm happy with it. The few times it comes dead on first try is electrifying - becomes a special car. OCD? :D ) and also into tuning - such as bolt on upgrades, as well as endless wheel changes till I'm satisfied.
This makes paint chips important so I go after those Seasonals, too, when able to.
Otherwise credits don't interest me - I know exactly where to fish and haul in the jumbo shrimp.
20M cars interest me - I went after and won the Jag even though I already have one - I like two. I can ruin one, keep the other bone stock, color, wheels and all as PD tuned it. Another way to 'save' credits is to stock cars for a quick sale, and an extra Jag brings in a lot of loot when you're strapped for cash.

I played GT4 entirely offline to test the game's 'playability' offline, so Seasonals are not the biggest draw for me. I have torn into the guts of the game and there is enough to keep me interested Offline.
But, as you say, a new challenge, a new paint chip, an interesting car/track combo - as well as, I might add - a chance to race new rabbits again at a fresh track - these are very tasty morsels and I look forward to that, too.
My Friend's Leaderboard, for some inexplicable reason is full of top runners.
From all over the world. And quite a few from this site, too.
I just log in to stare in wonder at their times. My times are usually half a day behind.

OCD can be healthy if you're following two laws: (1) You're not distressing yourself. And: (2) You're not distressing others.

Actually, what more can anyone ask for? :)

For the record, I never did the glitch. I preordered the game, but left to get married and honeymoon on my sailboat. The glitch was patched before I returned home and actually played GT6.

But early last year I did some grinding on Redbull Standards. I''ve earned nearly 530,000,000 credits.

On the other hand, my alternate account has about 35,000,000 after only 10 hours of play, and no car or tuning purchases (except for the mandatory FIT). So there are plenty of credit opportunities in the game.

i do mainly the straight up racing, beginner -> professional

but i like to see how far i get

i'll give you an example... the 500pp Deep Forest racing car one was one of the best seasonals

on the surface it sounds hard, as it IS hard

you're up against at least 2-3 550pp class cars

you're limited by power (eg. about 350hp) but tyres are max racing soft

so this means you have to LEARN the track, you have to go maximum attack in corners, you have to as you cannot use speed or corner acceleration

in other seasonals you get more PP, say 600 but racing hard

this is different in that you are drifting and trying to control a car that doesnt want to stay on the road, in this case you are LEARNING the car, not the track

this subtlely in devious and something only the japanese and PD are capable of

i've seen nothing this inventive from the opposition, this is what I pay money for

basically its only "new" thing in the game seeing there is no offline content. This game feels like a subscription model :( they are a bit of let down IMO

I like racing different cars in the seasonal RACES. Seeing how low in PP I can go, trying out different tunes, all the time earning credits. Never drove a drift trial, and time trials just are not for me. Beating my head against the wall for an hour to get .1 second faster doesn't make sense. I earn a quick silver and get out. Leaderboard fame is temporary. Who even remembers or cares who last months leaders were?

I really like the A-Spec seasonal races, where you have a good race time and also see how fast you can make the AI coming in second go.

Hehehe, I care.

Having such a dumb AI, time trialing became the most appealing part of the game and the only thing that keeps me playing after a year. Why? it's just you and the track. It's a mental battle. Climbing up in the leaderboards is pretty rewarding, and my skills got really sharpened. Racing a whole week just to find that tenth is exhausting but great. That feeling of achievement, of overcoming, is priceless.

A bit of everything. I like trying a lot of different cars out on all events...

I'm not into drifting that much so i usually gold them once and leave them, specially because they're so short and easy.

In fact, to be honest, challenge is absolutly nonexistent in the entire game. It still hurts me to think how they basically removed all license tests, as well as missions and endurance... that's why i loved the holiday events so much - wouldn't mind at all if they kept that stuff up with smaller rewards, but all hope is gone now

Credits: I don't need them.
Prize cars: I don't drive them.
Paint chips: I don't use them.
Leader board: I'm not that good, top 200 if I HAMMER the crap out of the challenge, top 400 if I enjoy it.
Something new: This.
Fresh challenge: This.

There exist those race/car/track combo's that I love, that even after gold I will go back to again and again, enjoying each pass, getting faster or slower, it doesn't matter, just the joy of that particular combo. This is why I love the seasonals, and it really hurts me that they disappear after a while.

The rest of them? I'm just trying to get that gold trophy to get it out of the way. I STILL haven't gotten gold on the last Goodwood challenge, and it bugs me to this day, but I'm done with it, tired of trying.

If memory serves me right, I've only really enjoyed 2 events out of all of them. Those were the Ring and the Ascari/Ferarri races. I spent a ridiculous amount of time on those and was sad to see them go.

I don't drift or rally but I put a bit of effort into the time trials. I'm not a leader board chaser though as I don't take it very seriously.

I prefer racing against real people and spend my time doing that instead. A sucker for punishment in the quick matches...:nervous:

The reality is the "leaderboard fame" doesn´t make sense. There are lots of amazing drivers out in the online lobbys. Sometimes we can see how a driver who´s not "known" as much as the frequent top 10/20 drivers we are used to see on the TTs beats them.

The biggest lure from the GT5 seasonals was the PP performance bonus - the opportunity to master a track and develop a good tune in an underpowered car and reap good rewards in the process. It would be great to see this back in the GT6 seasonals:tup:

Apart from that, the lure for me is to try to get to the top of my friends leaderboard with all aids off. Happens rarely but you gotta keep on trying!!!:banghead:

I went after and won the Jag even though I already have one - I like two. I can ruin one, keep the other bone stock, color

I still don't get why people do this, can you explain? Why do you need two cars? Can't you just use the settings tab, and keep one stock setting and have another tuned setting on Tab B? If you want a different colour just change it?

I can understand the Oil change thing as it alters the car. But unless you don't drive a car it will deteriorate no matter what. I have no interest in collecting cars that collect dust! :dopey: I am a guitarist and can't stand it when people who collect walls of guitars and never play them.

I won the Jag by the way :gtpflag:

Its the spirit of competition for me and a chance to further hone my driving skills. :)

I totally echo this sentiment... it adds variety to the game... different courses, different cars, different challenges. In GT5 some of the seasonals were so enjoyable I would go back and run them months later, usually after my skill had improved, or if I got a new tune for a car I wanted to try out. The Lamborghini seasonal comes to mind as one of the most enjoyable.

I know there have been many complaints about things missing from GT6 vs. GT5. For me the thing I hate the most is that the A-spec style seasonals (not the TTs) expire every 2 weeks. :grumpy::grumpy: I was pretty much offline from GT6 for about 6 months earlier this year and I wish I could have come back and run all the different seasonals that I missed.

After getting past the basic part of the game the only thing I do to keep my interest is to run the different seasonals and do the WRS TTs when I have time. Better seasonal variety (keeping the old ones around) would really add to that enjoyment. I really miss the Nordschliefe seasonal that we had a couple months ago.

For me it's the fact that everyone is doing them at the same time so it becomes a shared experience. Friendly competition with friends, sharing tunes and tales. And the chance to chase and learn from an alien ghost. There's rarely a seasonal event I can't find some enjoyment from, whether it's trying to beat a beginner's race at 100PP and two grades of tyre down in a thirty year old car or time-trialing an imaginary car from the future at terrifying speed.

If I buy a car I will always buy several of the same make & model cars, one especially for that track and the other one for stock, another for the Time Trials and one for A-Spec seasonal races, because I want to use that car only for that track, and if I have to use that same car on another track I just buy another one and tune it up, and there is nothing wrong in doing that.

Sure, but is there actually any benefit to that instead of using the different tune settings tabs for one car or is it just a preference? It seems like you're spending money when you can just use the different A B C settings before a race. Although you reduce mileage and wear having duplicate cars. I think you're also limited to 3 setting tabs. I haven't properly looked into if maintaining cars puts them back to new condition. Apart from oil changes.

But at the end of the day upgrades can be turned off, so I don't get the whole "Stock" thing.
But each to their own!

In it for the credits, the AI isn't worth racing (no fight), many courses are very similar in appearance to their GT4 assets (when applicable), and the only 20mil car I want is the original Le Mans Gulf GT40, and it's a standard...

Just killing time until P.CARS really.

I thought I explained that clearly enough regarding this particular instance:

As for obsessive collecting of virtual cars:

You play guitar? 👍 :)

Here's one of mine.
(from my 'collection' of guitars.)

It's one of the first solid-state digital guitars made. I don't swing that axe too often, though; I might strike more than the wrong chord and it would quickly lose value. ;)
