Do you wear a hat? Which ones and why?

I own just two hats at the moment; a trilby and a beanie. But I enjoy wearing them. There's something about wearing a proper hat that's somehow noir or mystique, it's part of the grammar of a gentleman's appearance and I think it should be more prominent.

I wear my trilby pretty much all the time. I just think it's a cool item. I want to buy a stereotypical gangster fedora soon, but a combination of money and availability has meant that this hasn't been achieved yet.

Beanie is a more lazy hat. I wear it if I haven't bothered to do my hair; it's easier to tuck it all underneath.

There is no good picture of me in my beanie, but here I am doing the trilby proud.

Hint: £6 from Matalan. Cheap as chips.

My trilby is my favourite. Cost me $12.00. Which milliner do you use?

I also wear a baseball cap . . . but only when I'm in denial.

Never owned a bowler, or a sombrero, but I did wear a top hat once for New Years Eve.

I have several hats, mostly baseball caps.

I mostly used to wear a New York Yankees hat, then I had a spell wearing a Midnight Club Los Angeles one.

Sometimes I wear Canada baseball caps but now I mostly wear my IZOD Indycar Series hat.

When winter comes, I put on my furry Russian hat (Soviet Union symbol included) that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago.

I'm usually about the woollies, I don't call them beenies because they have a fold over rim around the edge. Most of them are from sports brands like O'Neal, Quicksilver, Nike and such.

My personal preference for such hats is for the logo to be facing backwards and the rim pulled down to just above my eyebrows, covering my ears almost completely. Obviously these are for winter use.

My other collection is of multiple straw style hats in styles ranging from the oh-so-cool Trilby to the not-so-cool coolie hat which I swapped a peasant for with Ben Sherman shirt (don't ask, I was drunk at the time). All of them are pretty much different types of weave and a different tone of colour which I think makes them kind of unique in a way.

I went in for caps as a kid but these days I find they make me look daft so now I retain a PLA (Chinese military) trooper's hat which my dad got from his stay on a base with the family a few years back. I now keep it as a token item and really only use it for fishing because I get a few funny looks wearing it in the street.

Hang on, I'll fetch a pic...

I was a ball cap guy all my life up until a few years ago. I never liked to do my hair, so I'd just toss a hat up there. Then I found the beanie, which I never really liked until I wore one outside for a few hours in the winter. Right about the same time, Rickman over at www.mr2oc.com came out with a design for MR2 embroidered beanies and I just had to have one.... so I bought 2. Then a couple years ago I took the family to Disneyland in SoCal and I was looking for a new hat. I ended up picking a "boonie" hat, a hat with a full brim but with snaps on the sides so it could be tidied up a bit.

Some of these are "shop hats" that I only really wear when I'm crawling under one of the cars, but most of them I'll just randomly throw on and go anywhere in.

Oh yeah, then there is this one...

I currently own a British Summer Edition McLaren/Lewis Hamilton hat from 2012, and 2 beanies with the decorative strings on the side. I wear the beanies when I go Snowboarding and the McLaren just about everywhere but school. Stupid no hat policy...

I wear this every day.

I have quite a few fitted caps as well as snap backs, but I find myself wearing this one more often than not:

A few hats in my arsenal.

Left to right:

Boba Fett hat purchased in Disney World in 2010
Insulated hat with ear flaps used for snowblowing
Hard Rock Cafe (Philadelphia, Pa) purchased by my wife, worn daily
Hard Rock Cafe (Nassau, Bahamas), no longer allowed by my wife to wear it
Disney's Animal Kingdom hat, purchased in Disney World (duh!) last month
Hard Rock Cafe (Las Vegas) purchased in January, waiting for #3 to look like #4 to be the daily hat. :P

Edit: my Mouse ears pin on the Animal Kingdom hat:

:D

May have posted that before. Wasn't the greatest picture of me.

Dat pin badge.

That is really, really cool. Is it a special Disney thing (looking like Mickey and all)?
Indeed. When the 6 of us were in Disney World last month, my wife wanted everyone to have ears. Nothing but the Animal Kingdom hat fit (because everything there is sized Youth :odd:) but it didn't have ears. Then I spied the pin. :D

Dammit, that pin is to kill for.

Okay, alright, no killing. It's just to die for then.

Shem - that bloody PLA trooper hat is tops. As for the coolie - I have one, too. Somehow it's the kind of hat one gets attached to. Sticks to the head. In fact turns one into a casual mutt. I have one, and wear it when gardening, or taking the kids fishing.

Ta, Teddy Bear - always the helpful guy! Definitely will be looking into it.

Waiting to see the hat with the dangling corks . . . I'm sure someone down under has one.
I also wear a special hat that has earphones built in - I use it when I'm playing Gran Turismo. Feels like a helmet. I'll post a pic soon.
